In Dune: Awakening, players explore the deserts of Arrakis, gather resources, build up strongholds, and engage in intense PvP wars. The game’s persistent world encourages large-scale play, but it also provides avenues for players who prefer more private experiences with their partners.

If you’re looking to create a more controlled environment for you and your friends, renting a private server is the way to go. Unlike most PC run private servers, Dune: Awakening requires you to rent servers through official hosting partners. We’ll cover what you need to know to set up your private server in the game.

What Is A Private Server In Dune: Awakening?

Dune: Awakening - How To Create A Private Server

Unlike many other games in the survival genre, Dune: Awakening does not allow players to host private servers directly on their own PCs. Instead, you must rent a server through an approved hosting provider.

When you set up a private server, the only region that is truly private and customizable is the Hagga Basin map. Hubs and the Deep Desert are shared with other private servers. Only those who have the password to your server can enter Hagga Basin, where you’ll build, harvest spice, and face PvP (if enabled).

While your basin connects to the shared world in some areas, this is the space you actually own and shape.

Shared zones aren’t owned or managed by players. Instead, they’re maintained by the hosting provider to ensure every server in the World has access.

You can freely hop between shared zones using the server selection menu, and enter another server by entering its password if you have it. Your character, gear, and progress carry over, and unlike on official servers, you can even claim land on the one you visit.

When you visit a new private server, you’ll spawn at the Griffin’s Reach trade post, ready to explore and interact just like you would on your home server.

Private Server Details And Restrictions

Private, rented servers offer some customization, despite being less flexible than Funcom’s Conan Exiles or other survival MMOs. Instead, the game uses a hybrid system that gives communities control over select settings while keeping them connected to the broader multiplayer world.

This balance ensures a private experience without losing the social and dynamic elements of an MMO.

How To Rent And Host A Private Server

Dune: Awakening - How To Create A Private Server

You rent your own private server from approved hosting companies like GPORTAL, Nitrado, or xREALM. You can choose how many player slots you’d like, and a server “World”, which determines shared access to common areas like social hubs and the Deep Desert.

Once set up, you control the basic features of your instance, and also get to name and password-protect it.

Keep in mind that private servers currently do not include an admin control panel, and permanent character transfers between Worlds are not supported at this time.

Renting a private server is a straightforward process through official providers. Go to one of the official providers’ websites, and choose the plan that is right for you and your community:

  • GPORTAL server plans start at roughly $11.50 for six slots per 30 days.
  • Nitrado has subscription or prepaid options, around $30 for 24 slots and $40 for 32 slots for 30 days.
  • xREALM has six to 24 slot plans priced from $15–30 monthly, with options for more RAM.

Most private servers include SSD storage, DDoS protection, easy control panels, and 24/7 support. Setup is fast, and pricing scales with slot counts. Choose your provider based on region, support, hardware, and budget.
