Dune: Awakening
Traversal and exploration are two of the most important elements of gameplay in Dune: Awakening. Early on in the game, you’ll be instructed on how to use a Survey Probe to populate your map with details on resources, dungeon locations, and more. While this is great for the Hagga Basin, where most of Dune: Awakening’s action takes place, you might need a more useful tool in the Deep Desert, Dune: Awakening’s PvP area. That’s where Sinkcharts come in.
But if you’re new to Dune: Awakening and aren’t sure where to start, this guide has you covered. Here’s what you need to know about Sinkcharts and how they work.
What Are Sinkcharts?
A Sinkchart is an item you can create in Dune: Awakening that can be used to make a copy of a surveyed area of Arrakis.
If you’ve surveyed an area of the desert, whether it be in the Deep Desert or the Hagga Basin, you can transpose surveyed data onto a blank Sinkchart, which you can then use for various means, which we’ll go into detail about below.
How To Unlock Sinkcharts
To unlock Sinkcharts, you’ll first need to unlock the Planetologist skill tree.
To do this, find Dr. Derek Chinara in the South Hagga Basin. You can find him towards the center of the map once you’ve completed a survey by looking for the ‘Chinara’s Camp’ icon.
Dr. Chinara will send you on a quest to find and recover some Minimic Film Records from a nearby Imperial Testing station.
Once you complete this quest, you’ll have the Planetologist skill tree unlocked.
Imperial Testing stations are vast dungeons that can be explored, full of useful items, including the Film Records Dr. Chinara seeks.
From there, you’ll want to spend a skill point to unlock the Cartographer skill. This will allow you to create Sinkcharts of surveyed areas.
In order to create a Sinkchart of a surveyed area, you’ll need to purchase a blank Sinkchart from a vendor.
You can buy blank Sinkcharts for 1,500 Solari at most vendors. The closest one at game start is at the Anvil outpost.
How To Use Sinkcharts
Once you have unlocked the Cartographer skill and have a blank Sinkchart in tow, simply the steps below to create a Sinkchart.
- Select Surveyed Map Area
- Select ‘Make Chart’
Then, in your inventory, you’ll find a Sinkchart of the surveyed area ready to go!
From there, you can use Sinkcharts for various means. Here are a few of the best ways to make good use of Sinkcharts in Dune: Awakening.
- Share Sinkcharts with friends.
- Sell Sinkcharts on the Exchange
- Create Sinkcharts of the Deep Desert
Creating a Sinkchart of the Deep Desert, which is procedurally generated, is far and away the most valuable.
If you can create a Sinkchart of the Deep Desert early in the week, the item will likely prove to be far more valuable.
