It’s been a month since Dune: Awakening launched, and it’s given us a pretty good idea of what Arrakis would be like. Sandworms ruining your day, people attacking you even when you’re not in a war, and lots of sand everywhere. While most of us knew what life on the planet would be like thanks to the movies and books, it seems not everyone knew about the long-term effects of spice.
Spice is the unobtanium of the Dune universe, so everything revolves around finding and harvesting it. After all, «He who controls the spice, controls the universe.» However, it seems that the game has a neat little feature that many players are only now discovering. It seems consuming too much spice will give you some trippy visions, which players weren’t prepared for.
Players Are Spice-Induced Visions In Dune: Awakening
Along with giving you some abilities and buffs, it looks like you can also get hooked on spice and suffer withdrawal symptoms which will cause you to start hallucinating in the game. These will occur at random, and there’s no saying what you might see. From random animals to a complete scenery change, players have been seeing all sorts of trippy stuff.
SuperMW5768 posted a Reddit video where they saw a giant giraffe in the sky while flying their ornithopter. This giraffe initially looked like a glitch, but it faded away once they got closer. From their post, it doesn’t look like they knew that this was happening due to all the spice they were consuming.
In the comments, players started discussing all the weird things they’ve seen. «I have not seen giant animals yet, but have seen the desert turn into a dead forest a couple times now,» said one player. Others reported seeing giant whales flying by in the sky, although that might have just been Baron Harkonnen.
«Once a bunch of Bene Gesserit looking people popped out of the ground and just pointed at me as I went by on my sandbike. Freaked me the hell out,» said one very confused player. There were also reports of people seeing snow, rain, and giant battles that weren’t actually happening.
