Iron Fist Alexander, better known as Potman or Potboy, needs your help.
UPDATE: We’ve added some additional details and streamlined some information on this page to help you with completing Iron Fist Alexander’s quest.
The Elden Ring Alexander quest sees you follow the loveable large pot with arms and legs to the very end, and we mean that literally.
When you first meet him, he’ll most likely be stuck in the ground and in need of help. You can first encounter him in Stormhill, but as you progress with the story and defeat bosses together, Iron Fist Alexander will move around The Lands Between and even into Redmane Castle.
How to complete Iron Fist Alexander’s quest in Elden Ring
Iron Fist Alexander’s quest can be started in a few different locations, seeing as he moves about regularly, and the conditions for his quest to begin can vary. We’ll explain how to start his quest regardless of where you are in Elden Ring’s story.
How to Start Iron Fist Alexander’s Quest in Stormhill
At the beginning of your journey, Iron Fist Alexander is found north of the Agheel Lake North Site of Grace, in Stormhill (shown above). Later, he can also be found in Gael Tunnel preparing for the fight, before then heading to Redmane Castle where he can be summoned to help against Starscourge Radahn.
I missed catching him in Stormhill as I fought with Radahn first, but by the looks of the above, it appears someone else must’ve helped Iron Fist Alexander out of this one.
If you are yet to start the Redmane Festival, Alexander makes his way to the entrance of Gael Tunnel, where he talks about going to Redmane Castle. If you have started the Redmane Festival, you can talk to Alexander there before fighting Radahn, where you can summon the jovial pot to fight alongside you.
How to start Alexander’s Quest in Liurnia, after Radahn
You’re free to summon Alexander during the Radahn battle as many times as you want. No matter how often Radahn defeats him — or Blaidd — they won’t die permanently.
After the fight, speak with Iron Fist Alexander in the desert before leaving Radahn’s arena.
After this, he can now be found in Liurnia of the Lakes, along the road that the Artist’s Shack Site of Grace is on (shown above). If you’ve already adventured to Mt. Gelmir by this point, you don’t need to worry about the following few steps and can skip to the section on where Alexander goes after Liurnia.
He’s stuck yet again and calls out for your help. He will tell you that he is stuck in the ground, and requires you to make him ‘slippery’ so he can get up again. For this, you’ll need to craft and throw an Oil Pot at him to get him out of the ground.
You can craft an Oil Pot using the recipe from the Nomadic Warriors Cookbook 17 (which can be bought from the Nomadic Merchant in Siofra River), and 1x Melted Mushroom.
He’ll be grateful for your help, and will reward you with three pieces of Exalted Flesh, as well as the Triumphant Delight gesture.
Where does Iron Fist Alexander go after Liurnia?
The jovial pot will then make his way to Seethewater Terminus by Volcano Manor, where you can speak with him again in the lava field where the Magma Wyrm resides. Exhaust his dialogue to receive one of the best masks in the game, the Jar!
After this, he can be summoned again for your fight against the Fire Giant. His summon sign is found inside of the arena.
Enjoy it, because when you next meet Alexander again in Crumbling Farum Azula, he will ask for the chance to honourably duel with you (shown on the below interactive map). You can access the area he is located in from the Dragon Temple Lift Grace (which is reached from the Beside the Great Bridge) Site of Grace.
Winning the duel is the only way to finish Alexander’s quest (unless you run away and leave him here, I suppose!), but it does mean that our friend unfortunately dies.
Though, you will receive the Shard of Alexander talisman — one of the best talismans at that — and Alexander’s Innards as a reward. You’ll use the Innards won from the fight to then move Jar Bairn’s quest forward.
