Leaked information suggests that a remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion could release next week. Oblivion was originally released in 2006. A remake of the game was reportedly in production two years ago, with rumours persisting lately that the game would be shadow-dropped sometime this year.
According to a journalist for Giant Bomb, a credible source informed them that the game would be released the week of Apr. 21. The game was allegedly remade by Virtuous, which is currently working on Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 3 remake.
The news on the Oblivion remake was reported by Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, who – according to Video Games Chronicles – gave an update on the rumoured drop on the latest episode of Game Mess Mornings. Grubb stated, “Last week on the show, we were talking about it like, ‘Oh yeah, it should shadow drop at any moment.’ I’ll give people a week now – the week of April 21. Basically, the last week of this month – next week, essentially. It should shadow drop then, which I think, you know, other people have said, but I’ve gotten separate confirmation that that’s going to be the case.”
The original leak for the game resulted from a former Virtuous employee who confirmed the game’s existence. The leaker also noted the changes that would be coming to the updated Oblivion, stating that the game had been completely remade in Unreal Engine 5. The description also suggests that many gameplay systems, such as stamina, sneaking, blocking archery and hit reaction, have been overhauled.
Oblivion was set in Cyrodiil two hundred years before the events of Skyrim and follows the player’s crisis as he attempts to stop the gates to the demonic realm of Oblivion from opening. The game hosted a vast open world with dense regions to explore and exciting quests for the player to take part in. Returning to the world with a graphic overhaul would be a rewarding experience and one to bridge the gap until the release of The Elder Scrolls VI.
