It’s no exaggeration to say that one particular scene in A Minecraft Movie has gone completely viral since the Jared Hess-directed film was released on April 4. Videos on various social media platforms of movie-goers, often kids and teenagers, enthusiastically react to the “chicken jockey” scene in the movie that stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa.
Theaters around the country have been dealing with patrons throwing popcorn in the air during a scene in which Black’s character Steve yells “chicken jockey” after a baby zombie falls from a crate and lands on the back of a chicken. At a Utah theater, someone went so far as to sneak a live chicken into a screening of A Minecraft Movie. A New Jersey theater has banned groups of minors from the film unless they are accompanied by a responsible adult.
Movie Goers are Urged to Dress Up, Clap, and Shout at the Screenings
Now, a nationwide theater chain is announcing that it will hold special “chicken jockey” 4DX screenings of A Minecraft Movie on April 20. Per Forbes, Regal Cinemas will hold the screenings at select theater locations. In a post on X, the theater chain wrote, “Level up your experience of A Minecraft Movie with our Chicken Jockey Screening exclusively in 4DX. Dress up as your favorite Minecraft characters, whoop, yelp, clap, and shout.”
A Minecraft Movie is dominating the box office and is now one of the top 25 most successful films in Warner Bros. history, taking the No. 24 spot ahead of The Hangover. A Minecraft Movie has already taken in $550.6 million worldwide, but has a ways to go before it catches up to 2023’s Barbie, which is Warner Bros.’s top-grossing film ever at $1.447 billion.

Jack Black Makes a Surprise Appearance
The movie is based on Minecraft, a popular sandbox game by Mojang Studios. In addition to Black and Momoa, it stars Danielle Brooks and Emma Myers. Screenings of the film have received a lot of attention, and not just for the “chicken jockey” reactions. In a video that’s since gone viral, Jack Black showed up at a showing of the movie and urged attendees to not throw popcorn.
"No Chicken Jockey!"
“For today’s presentation of A Minecraft Movie, please, no throwing popped corn, and also no Lapiz Lazuli, and absolutely no chicken jockey!” Black said over the speakers at a theater. He then walked out to the surprise of the audience, which was made up of mainly children, carrying an axe. The audience cheers and Black says, “I am Steve! Look what I brought, my actual pickaxe! Are you ready to rock? Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy A Minecraft Movie. Roll the projector,” Black said.
Regal Cinemas’ 4DX screenings of A Minecraft Movie will happen in select theaters on April 20. Tickets can be found on the Regal Cinemas Website.
