The CQC-20 Breaching Hammer landed yesterday with the new Siege Breakers warbond, and Super Earth’s finest wasted no time turning it on everything the Automatons could throw at them. Factory Striders included.
Helldivers 2 may not officially have meta loadouts beyond using whatever spreads democracy most efficiently for your own playstyle, but fun absolutely counts as meta. Especially when that fun involves kneecapping a walking skyscraper with an explosive-charged hammer in seconds flat:

Melee is finally becoming genuinely viable in the game, and players know how rare that feels. Given Arrowhead’s track record, there is already a quiet sense that this moment might be temporary.

Ahead of the warbond launch, senior game designer Alexus teased that the Breaching Hammer would be “absolutely insane.” That comment is aging remarkably well and turning out to be more of an understatement as players keep uncovering just how flexible the weapon really is:

What began as a gloriously stupid way to flatten bots has quickly turned into a versatile tool for dismantling Automaton infrastructure during the ongoing march into Cyberstan. Players are smashing objectives that normally demand stratagems, orbitals, or careful setup.
And some Helldivers are already taking things a step further:

Yes, people are genuinely planning to go head-to-head with a Dragonroach using nothing but a sledgehammer and a LIFT-860 Hover Pack. Not the Jump Pack, though, unfortunately. That one still refuses to let you swing melee weapons mid-air, which feels like a missed opportunity for some truly legendary clips.
Nerf Doomposting for the Hammer Has Already Begun

Of course, it did not take long for the other shoe to drop:

At this point, the skepticism is less paranoia and more pattern recognition. After all, Arrowhead has spent nearly two years “rebalancing” weapons the moment (some even sneakily) they cross from effective into genuinely fun, and players have learned to brace themselves.
That said, this might be a moment where patience pays off. The developers have shown they are willing to walk things back when backlash gets loud enough, and melee finally feeling good after so long has already created a surprisingly unified front.
If the Breaching Hammer does catch a nerf, the fanbase it has already built will not stay quiet. Smashing bots by hand is too satisfying to give up easily.
