Epic Games is releasing a Disney extraction shooter: Report

Epic Games has reportedly been working on a Disney extraction shooter, and it arrives this November.

For the past two years, Epic has been building something far bigger than a Fortnite collab. When Disney invested $1.5 billion in the company in 2024, the deal came with a plan: a multi-game universe built around Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and Pixar properties. Most Epic employees never knew the details, but the first game is almost done.

According to Bloomberg, the game is an extraction shooter featuring Disney characters battling enemies until they reach an extraction point, following a format similar to Arc Raiders. Four current and former employees told Bloomberg the game is on track for a November launch, though internal reviewers have raised concerns the mechanics lack originality.

Epic has already committed to at least two more games under the Disney deal, though early builds of the second title received middling internal reviews, and resources for the third were pulled back after Disney reportedly expressed frustration with Epic’s release timeline.

Epic and Disney both pushed back on the characterization, with Epic saying it is “building a new games and entertainment universe of Disney experiences” and Disney calling the collaboration “transformational.”

The news comes at a rough moment for Epic. Last month the company laid off 1,000 employees as part of a $500 million cost-cutting effort. CEO Tim Sweeney acknowledged that Fortnite had struggled to deliver consistent results each season, while Bloomberg’s sources said new products also fell short of internal expectations. Fortnite Ballistic and Fortnite Festival Battle Stage shut down on April 16, and Rocket Racing will follow in October.
