The creative world was set ablaze yesterday as Eren the Southpaw (Hidarikiki no Eren) finally made its long-awaited debut on Crunchyroll. Eren the Southpaw Episode 2 is set to air on April 14, 2026, just one week after the anime’s first episode landed on Crunchyroll on April 7.
The first episode was nothing short of a visual manifesto, capturing the grueling, high-stakes atmosphere of the advertising industry and the raw, unbridled chaos of artistic genius. The premiere introduced us to the starkly different worlds of Koichi Asakura, a hardworking designer struggling with his own perceived mediocrity, and Eren Yamagishi, a “Southpaw” prodigy whose talent is as destructive as it is brilliant.
With the pilot setting such a high emotional bar, the anticipation for the next chapter is already reaching a fever pitch. As the series establishes its rhythm, viewers are desperate to see how the collision between hard work and natural-born talent will unfold.

If the first episode served as an introduction to the “present day” (2010) frustrations of our protagonists, Episode 2 is expected to peel back the layers of how they became the people they are today. Episode 1 showed a dual timeline, where we were introduced to 17-year-old Koichi and Eren from 1998, and also saw the 29-year-old Koichi’s adult life being wasted away in mediocrity.
Based on the manga’s pacing, we are likely to see a deeper dive into the “Yokohama Era,” the formative years where the seeds of rivalry and inspiration were first planted. There’s going to be more of the Koichi-Eren high school rivalry, which officially started at the end of Episode 1. We will see a lot of Kato Sayuri, Koichi’s high school friend, who also seems to have a crush on him, in the upcoming episode.
In Episode 2, I expect the narrative to lean heavily into the psychological toll of the industry. We will likely see Koichi facing a specific professional setback at his agency, Megane, that forces him to question whether he truly belongs in a room full of “geniuses.”
What makes this story so compelling, and what I believe Episode 2 will highlight, is the “Southpaw” philosophy. In boxing, a southpaw is an unconventional fighter, someone who approaches the ring from an angle most aren’t prepared for. Eren Yamagishi is the artistic equivalent of that. While Episode 1 showed us her distance and her aura, Episode 2 should begin to show us her isolation. Talent like hers often comes with a social and emotional cost, and the anime seems poised to explore the loneliness that lives at the top of the mountain.
Where to Watch Eren the Southpaw Episode 2?

As confirmed by the series’ distribution partners, Crunchyroll remains the exclusive home for Eren the Southpaw outside of Asia. The streaming giant secured the rights to the series as one of its flagship titles for the Spring 2026 season, recognizing the massive popularity the original manga enjoyed on digital platforms like Shonen Jump+. For viewers in Japan, the episode will air on major networks like TV Tokyo before moving to local streaming services.
