Evangelion Releases 30-Year Anniversary Candles to Rep Your Favorite Anime Mecha Unit

Now turning 30 years old, the classic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion is celebrating a major milestone. To mark the occasion, fans can light up and smell the nostalgia with an unexpected and officially licensed collaboration.

Produced by the brand soli, the new Radio Eva x Soli Evangelion candles have the very scent of the franchise. Based on the anime’s iconic mecha, these three candles can actually be «refilled,» in a way. While they won’t trigger «Third Impact,» these Evangelion items will add a cruel angel’s fragrance to every collection.

Evangelion Fans Can Join the Human 'Scent-Strumentality' Project With New Mecha Candles

The trio of Neon Genesis Evangelion candles by soli are part of a collaboration with Radio Eva, which handles branded fashion and similar items for the mecha anime franchise. Cast in purple, red and yellow, these three options are based on the color schemes of the EVA units in the anime. The purple is based on the iconic EVA-01 unit and has a statice flower design and sandalwood scent. EVA-00 is the yellow candle, with the corresponding flower being mimosa and the scent being a fitting lemongrass. Meanwhile, the red EVA-02 candle has rose for both its flower and scent, giving each unit a smell as different as their pilots.

The actual candle within these items is the takibi candle by soli, with the main body measuring 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm. By collecting the wax that drips and melts, customers can refill the gel candles and light them again. Hand-made and meant to last 1-2 hours, these candles are certainly something different for fans of Evangelion. The price of the items is 11,000 yen, or roughly US$77, with The Evangelion Store shipping items internationally via the Buyee service. The candles are expected to be delivered in late May, so those looking to light their wicks by the end of the month should order theirs soon. This year also marks the 30th anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion as a whole, with the original anime having run from 1995 to 1996.
