The following contains spoilers for the Season 1 finale of Daredevil: Born Again, currently streaming on Disney+.
With the Season 1 finale of Daredevil: Born Again, the show delivered a story where Matt Murdock fully embraces the Man Without Fear as a hero and symbol. As mayor, Wilson Fisk is both the Kingpin of Crime and in control of the institutional power of the city. The second season, currently in production, will show how Daredevil has to defeat Kingpin while winning back the trust of the people in New York.
As filming for Daredevil: Born Again is again underway, set photos revealed Season 2’s black suit, complete with the iconic «DD» logo. What lies ahead for these characters is shrouded in mystery, but both these photos and official announcements offer up some clues. While there are still open questions about some important Daredevil: Born Again characters, many of the cast are confirmed to return in Season 2. The following identifies the folks from Season 1 viewers are certain will appear in the next eight episodes, but this list will surely grow as filming continues. Some characters not officially confirmed are almost certain to return, because the story demands it.
13 Charlie Cox Will Return as Matt Murdock and Daredevil
Cox's Return Is Confirmed via Producers and Set Photos
Perhaps the most obvious person, Charlie Cox will be back as the titular hero in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. This was never in question, but producers confirmed it just the same during the press tour for Season 1. Similarly, Cox was seen in set photos from location filming for Season 2. While Matt Murdock «crossed a line» with Bullseye, he reclaimed his identity as Daredevil in the finale.

Naturally, Cox is the not-so-secret weapon for the series. Perhaps the best example of why is in Daredevil: Born Again‘s perfect standalone episode. From talking to the bank robbers to keeping Yusuf Khan calm, Cox is able to showcase all aspects of Matt Murdock’s character. His intensity in or out of costume is equally matched by his charm and ability to inject humor into the story.
12 Vincent D'Onofrio Will Return as Wilson Fisk and the Kingpin
D'Onofrio's Return Is Confirmed via Producers and the Story Demands His Participation
Another obvious actor reprising his role in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk. The Season 1 finale showed his character solidifying his power as both the Kingpin of Crime and the New York City Mayor. After almost losing Vanessa, Kingpin abandoned his «reform,» reveling in his villainy and the institutional power he enjoys.
There is a real argument that since the end of Echo, Wilson Fisk tried changing who he is, specifically abandoning his violent, criminal urges. Yet, the only person he truly fooled was himself. From kidnapping his wife’s lover Adam to blackmailing Commissioner Gallo on his first day as mayor, Fisk was never far from the Kingpin. Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again will begin with him more powerful than ever before. This means that the only trajectory the character can take is a downfall.
11 Elden Henson Will Somehow Return as Foggy Nelson in Season 2
Producers Said Henson Would Be Back, but He's Likely Still Going to be Dead
Along with Woll, actor Elden Henson came back to play Franklin «Foggy» Nelson. Showrunner Dario Scardapane «was willing to lose a job» fighting for the character’s inclusion. Of course, Henson was not there for long, since Bullseye murdered Foggy in the first episode. Rather than seeing it happen, the original plan was for the death to happen off-screen. Henson’s return was short, but it helped define the stakes in Daredevil: Born Again.
«Without going into spoiler territory, I will day that both Deborah and Elden are coming back for Season 2,» Brad Winderbaum in an interview.
How Elden Henson returns as Foggy for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is an open question. Some fans believed they caught a subtle Easter egg suggesting Foggy’s death wouldn’t stick. Yet, despite comic book stories’ penchant for resurrection, this seems unlikely. He didn’t fake his death, dying in Karen’s arms. There’s no real «magic» in this series either. More likely, Henson’ Foggy will appear in a flashback sequence. Though, he may also appear to Matt Murdock as a «vision,» like Fisk did in Daredevil Season 3.
10 Deborah Ann Woll Confirmed She's Back as Karen Page
The Actor and the Producers Revealed Woll Has a Part to Play in Season 2
When production on Daredevil: Born Again started, Deboran Ann Woll wasn’t coming back. After the series stopped production for a creative overhaul, that changed. During the press tour for Season 1, Woll revealed Karen Page would also appear in Season 2. Set photos taken as Born Again filmed on location confirmed her character is still a part of this story. In fact, Woll almost certainly has a larger role for these final eight episodes.
Before the creative revamp, Jon Bernthal wouldn’t return without Woll as Karen. The Season 1 finale shows why, with Frank only helping Matt Murdock because she asked him to. One reason she only appeared in two Season 1 episodes stems from that original plan. The new writers didn’t have a chance to add as much as they perhaps wanted to in order to restart filming. With Season 2, Karen Page can be a larger part of the story since they had more time to rewrite and rework the episodes.
9 Genneya Walton as BB Urich Is Going to be Back for Season 2
Walton Has Been Seen Filming and Will Likely Take on Kingpin
A running motif in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 was a series of «person on the street» interviews from a character with a familiar name: BB Urich, who is played by Genneya Walton. The character took on a more prominent role when she interviewed Mayor Fisk early in the series. However, she ended up strong-armed into reporting a lie about the Vigilante Task Force’s role in killing Muse. Still, the series revealed she has a bigger goal than just getting access to City Hall.
In the penultimate Daredevil: Born Again episode, BB wants justice for her uncle, Ben Urich. She told Commissioner Gallo, before his death, she knew Wilson Fisk most likely killed her uncle. Not only was she named after him, but she also carries on the family tradition with her career in journalism. While she compromised herself with the Muse story, she may likely make up for it by revealing the truth about Kingpin.
8 Clark Johnson's New Character Cherry Is Important to Matt Murdock
Cherry Is Confirmed to Return, and He's a Part of Daredevil's Army
The series opened with the death of Foggy Nelson, but this scene also introduced a new character close to Matt Murdock. He, Foggy and Karen were all at Josie’s Bar to celebrate the retirement of Clark Johnson’s Cherry from the police force. It’s implied he had a history with Daredevil, too, and that night he learned the vigilante and Matt Murdock were the same person. He’s confirmed to return for Season 2 and ended Season 1 where he started: in Josie’s Bar.
After Foggy’s death, Cherry became Matt Murdock’s investigator at his new firm. In order for Daredevil to be «born again,» the vigilante had to go away. Cherry took on Foggy’s role as Matt’s friend who knows his alter-ego’s identity and deeply disapproved of him suiting up. When Matt took down Muse, he refused to help him «ruin his life» any further. Yet, by the end of Season 1, Cherry was in the bar with Karen, Detective Angie Kim and others as part of the «army» to take down Wilson Fisk.
7 Michael Gandolfini Will Be Back as Daniel Blake, the Kingpin's New Aide
The Original Character Will Likely Be Further Corrupted by Wilson Fisk
When first announced for the series, some expected Michael Gandolfini to play Kingpin’s son, the villain known as «The Rose.» Marvel quietly quelled this rumor, revealing that Gandolfini would be the new character, Daniel Blake. He is the ultimate Kingpin fanboy, now the Deputy Mayor of Communications. In the Daredevil: Born Again finale he strong-armed the city council, and he’s since been confirmed Season 2. In fact, the most important detail about the character may yet be revealed.
There may be more to Daniel’s commitment to Fisk’s anti-vigilante platform than fans realized. While he’s a new character, he shares a forgotten villain’s name from Daredevil Season 1. Detective Christian Blake was a corrupt cop in that first season in the employ of Fisk, who ultimately had him killed. Yet, as far as the public knew, Detective Blake was shot and, later, killed in his hospital room by Daredevil. Obviously, this wasn’t the truth, but Daniel may be out for revenge for his father.
6 Susan Varon Is Back as Josie, Who Runs the Eponymous Hell's Kitchen Bar
Varon Was Seen in Set Photos with Daredevil and the Vigilante Task Force
One actor’s return in both Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 and Season 2, perhaps almost didn’t happen. The original plan for Foggy’s death was for it to happen off-screen. This perhaps meant the iconic Hell’s Kitchen watering hole, Josie’s Bar, was also absent from the show. After appearing in nine episodes of Daredevil, Susan Varon reprised her role as Josie for a trio of Season 1 episodes. However, she’s also been seen on set for Season 2.
Foggy’s death infuriated fans, given that he only appeared in a few scenes. Yet, the impact of this loss extended beyond that first episode. Not only did Matt give up being Daredevil, but the killing seemed to have permanently closed Josie’s Bar. The final scene of the season finale shows Daredevil and other characters uniting at Josie’s in their effort to fight Fisk. However, set photos that revealed the black suit and the new gear for the VTF seemed to revolve around rescuing Varon’s Josie from the Kingpin’s thugs.
5 Matthew Lillard Was Cast in a Mystery Role for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Lillard's Participation in the Series Was Reported in the Hollywood Trades
One of the most exciting cast announcements for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 was Matthew Lillard. He is beloved for his roles in Scooby-Doo, the Scream franchise, Twin Peaks: The Return, and other films and series. This news alone generated buzz among fans eager to find out who he will play in the series.
Some fans speculate Lillard could appear as a character from the comics, perhaps a villain like the Owl or Jester. It’s equally possible he’s a brand-new character, on either side of the Daredevil versus Kingpin street war. The versatile actor has the range to take on any kind of role, from sinister antagonist to pure comic relief.
4 Lili Taylor Will Appear in Season 2 as Wilson Fisk's Political Rival
Taylor's Casting Was Announced to the Press and Is an Important Role
Another exciting casting announcement revealed Lili Taylor’s political antagonist to Wilson Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. With Kingpin in control of the police, City Hall, and maybe even the courts, there aren’t many legitimate avenues to challenge him. Yet, the Season 1 finale ended with the institution of martial law in New York. This could make him unpopular and politically vulnerable.
While Daredevil will be forced to fight against Kingpin’s forces on the street, the city will need a mayor. The introduction of Lili Taylor’s character gives the heroes an alternative to offer the people. While the vigilantes fight against the VTF and maybe even Kingpin himself, Taylor will strive to bring legitimacy back to the government of New York. She may not explicitly Daredevil’s ally, but she’s his best bet to take down Fisk.
3 Sydney Parra Is in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 in a Small Role
Parra Was Seen on Set Being Interviewed by BB Urich
It’s not just legends of film and television joining Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. Actor Sydney Parra is best known for her work on stage, including Broadway. Set photos from filming on Season 2 revealed Parra has a role in the show, but it’s possibly quite small. Parra is seen in images being interviewed by BB Urich for her video report. From her outfit, she seems to be a citizen of New York offering up her opinion.
It’s possible the characters interviewed by BB Urich in Season 1 and 2 could play a larger role in Daredevil’s effort to take back the city.
Parra’s presence confirms Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will continue The BB Report motif from Season 1. As the story unfolded, these everyday New Yorkers weighed in on the issues, from Kingpin’s elevation to mayor to their thoughts on vigilantes. While it’s possible these characters could play a larger role in Season 2, they may just appear as a Greek Chorus-like commentary on the events of the show.
2 Annie Parisse Is a Character in Trouble in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Parisse Was Seen on Set With the Vigilante Task Force
Also revealed in set photos was the inclusion of veteran character actor Annie Parisse for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. She has an eclectic career playing a variety of roles in film and television. Perhaps the series that most matches the street-level heroics of Born Again is Jonathan Nolan’s Person of Interest. In the drama, she had a recurring role as Kara Stanton, a CIA assassin turned terrorist. She may have a similarly action-oriented role in the show.
The photos showed Parisse in civilian clothes not a costume. However, she seemed to be under arrest by members of the Vigilante Task Force. Images showed them holding her by the arms, looking disheveled and placed in the back of their up-armored paddy wagon. It’s possible she’s a bystander caught up in the extrajudicial activities of Kingpin’s private army. She may also be a character in Daredevil’s army to take back the city.
1 James Armstrong Is Going to Be a Member of the Vigilante Task Force
Armstrong Was Seen On Set in the Upgraded VTF Uniform, the Actor Plays a Small Role
Stunt coordinator and actor James Armstrong appears in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, continuing a long history with Marvel television series. Set photos caught him in the VTF uniform, complete with Punisher logo. Previously, Armstrong worked on the stunts team for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Carter, Thor, and the two Andrew Garfield Spider-Man films.
- Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will have eight total episodes.
- Filming began on Season 2 while Season 1 was still debuting.
- Not renewed for Season 3 but could be.
- Expected, at the earliest, in late 2026, possible early 2027.

His character likely won’t be that important narratively, nor even have a name. However, as part of the VTF he could tussle with Frank Castle. These corrupt cops adopted the Punisher’s logo and are even more brutal than he is when it comes to criminals. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Punisher is selective about his targets. The VTF kills anyone they can get away with.
The complete Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 is streaming on Disney+, while Season 2 is currently in production.
