The Chromatic Hexga is a formidable optional boss in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 that can seem invincible if you don’t approach the fight with the right strategy for your team. This boss presents a challenge at any point in the game, as it can hit your party multiple times in a single turn and can cast shield protection on itself — in addition to not taking any damage from base attacks and skills, giving the impression of being invulnerable.
Thankfully, there is a method to make this challenging monster a bit easier, and with the right steps, your party in Expedition 33 can defeat the Chromatic Hexga.
Where To Find Chromatic Hexga In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The Chromatic Hexga can be found during Act 2 to the east of the Stone Wave Cliffs, where the white Hexga can be found. Confusingly, the lair where the Chromatic Hexga lurks is also called the Stove Wave Cliffs. To reach it, you can use Esquie to swim to the beach where the portal to the boss fight is found. Unlike the white version, there’s no conversation, and this powerful monster will charge the party and attack as soon as you get near it. Use the grapple hooks to reach its location, and prepare for a fight.

The Chromatic Hexga is resistant to fire and draws power from its crystals to cast multiple shields on itself. The party can damage it with regular attacks and skills until its health reaches halfway. During this time, build up your Gradient Charges and don’t use them. With its health at half, the Hexga will draw more power from its crystals to become invincible, in addition to the protective shield that the Hexga has already cast. The Chromatic Hexga will cast Curse on your party, killing them in three turns, and will cast Rage on itself to attack twice in one turn.
Use healing tints and Perfect Recovery to dispel any status effects.
The Chromatic Hexga is vulnerable to ice attacks, but first, you must lower its defenses:
- Get rid of the shields using multi-hit attacks like Maelle’s Fleuret Fury, Breaking Rules, or build up the party’s AP and use free aim attacks to break the shields.
- With the shields gone, use free aim again to shoot the glowing white crystals on its back until you start seeing damage.
- Then, attack the boss with everything your party has, including Gradients, until it falls.
After defeating the Chromatic Hexga, the party will be awarded 19,410 XP, Energising Revive, and Confidant Pictos.
