The only item left behind is a keepsake: a postcard of Colorado, referencing a pre-war dream of escaping to that state. This clue propels The Ghoul toward the mountains, setting a new primary location for the story’s future.
While Lucy (Ella Purnell) and Maximus remain in New Vegas as major factions descend, the Ghouls’ personal quest is now the compass pointing north. Showrunner Geneva Robertson-Dworet confirmed this deliberate pivot, putting down the move as “definitely partially” to maintain the series’ Western aesthetic while offering audiences something new. She expressed hope that viewers get “really excited to go to some fresh snow.”
Fallout’s relocation to Colorado in Season 3 is a creative decision rooted in both character motivation and the desire to explore new facets. Robertson-Dworet explained to ScreenRant, saying, “He has a number of problems, which is that what he’s looking for right now is a needle in a haystack.” She further added, “All he’s got right now is Colorado to find who he’s looking for. So, he needs to figure out more specifically where he is going, and that might take him a beat and lead him somewhere else.”
Todd Howard further emphasized how geography defines the Fallout experience. He teased that season 2 is “hinting on things that are coming.” Howard also hinted about the narrative flexibility within the franchise, stating, “I think what’s exciting, if we view each season as a chapter of Fallout, where can we go? What kind of new things can we show as well that potentially the games really haven’t touched on?”
