Firehouse Subs is launching a one-day giveaway that targets a very specific group of customers.
On May 6, the sandwich chain will offer a free medium Steak & Cheese Melt to anyone named Mike, as part of a promotion that also references one of its biggest competitors.
The offer applies to a wide range of names, including Mike, Michael, Mikey, Miguel, Michelle, Michele, and Michaela, with valid ID required to redeem the deal in-store.
The campaign arrives as Firehouse Subs continues to expand its menu and lean into promotional stunts tied to its brand identity and leadership.
Firehouse Subs offers free sandwich to “every Mike in America”
According to People, the promotion is a direct nod to Jersey Mike’s, with Firehouse Subs framing the giveaway as a playful jab at the rival sandwich brand.
It also ties back to Firehouse Subs president Mike Hancock, whose name is referenced throughout the campaign. In a promotional video released alongside the announcement, a chef prepares the sandwich and says it is “just for Mike.”

The featured Steak & Cheese Melt includes flame-seared USDA Choice prime rib, provolone cheese, brown sugar caramelized onions, and red and green bell peppers. According to the company, the sandwich contains 42 grams of protein.
Founded in 1994, Firehouse Subs has grown to more than 1,400 locations worldwide.
The chain also highlighted its ongoing charitable efforts, noting that a portion of every purchase supports the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The organization has awarded more than $107 million in funding to first responders and public safety groups across North America, according to the company.
The name-based giveaway follows a wider trend of brands targeting customers with specific names for promotions. In 2025, Halo Top offered 8,000 free pints to anyone whose name matched a popular ice cream brand, requiring customers to submit proof of purchase and verify their name to claim the reward.
