Everything you need to know about Fomantis’s Spotlight Hour.
This week’s Spotlight Hour is all about the Sickle Grass Pokémon. Yeah, we had no idea either because it’s definitely not Scyther… Instead, it’s the perfect chance to catch Fomantis in Pokémon Go!
Fomantis, and its evolution, Lurantis are forgettable … in Pokémon Go … there’s not really much to say about this family of Pokémon. It’s basically an orchid mantis that looks pretty but doesn’t do much.
Fortunately, there is another bonus to this Spotlight Hour event, the double evolution XP bonus. It’s time to crack a Lucky Egg and go to town evolving your spare Pokémon

Fomantis’s 100% perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go
This Spotlight Hour is the perfect opportunity to find a Fomantis with perfect IV stats in Pokémon Go.
For Fomantis, the CP values which correspond to perfect 15/15/15 stats are as follows:
- Level 30 (wild CP maximum) — 635 CP
- Level 35 (weather boosted CP maximum) — 688 CP
Fomantis’s wild CP value aligns with your current Trainer Level until you reach Level 30, so, since the majority of the player base is above this level, we keep to these values for the sake of simplicity. If you’re currently beneath Level 30, however, these values will be different.
Perfect stats in Pokémon Go, however, depend entirely on what you want to use your Pokémon for.
A Pokémon that is perfect for the Master League and raids means exclusively 15/15/15 — the best possible stats that a Pokémon can have. Meanwhile, perfect for Great League and Ultra League are completely different, as the goal is to get the lowest attack for the highest defence, and getting that CP as close to the league’s cap as possible.
Fomantis evolution chart: What does Fomantis evolve into?
The Sickle Grass Pokémon, Fomantis, evolves into the Bloom Sickle Pokémon, Lurantis.
Unfortunately, both are pretty forgettable. Neither are particularly useful or standout though we will concede that Lurantis knowing Leaf Blade is advantageous. That’s really the best we can say for these two Pokémon, other than that Lurantis is a vaguely pretty Pokémon.
You can read more about both Pokémon below:
- Fomantis — Many Trainers give their Fomantis their own flowerpots so they can sunbathe in peace and quiet. Fomantis hates having its naps interrupted. It fires off beams using energy it gathers by bathing in the sun.
- Lurantis — A lot of time and effort is required to maintain the vivid colors of its petals. This Pokémon puts its Trainer’s attentiveness to the test. By masquerading as a bug Pokémon, it lowers the guard of actual bug Pokémon lured in by a scent of sweet flowers. Its sickles bring them down.
So, it’s a high-maintenance Pokémon for very little reward? Cool…
Remember, if you’re hurting for Candy, use Pinap Berries and Silver Pinap Berries to double the amount of Candy you earn from catching, and make sure to have a Grass-type Pokémon Mega Evolved — Mega Venusaur or Mega Sceptile for example.
Is Lurantis good in PVP?
Nope, it is mediocre at best.
Some Pokémon exist purely to be pretty. These are generally Pokédex fillers, and Lurantis is undoubtedly fits into this category.
If you are really keen to try it, Lurantis runs Fury Cutter, Leaf Blade and Superpower in Great League. This is a spammy moveset that applies decent shield pressure, but on a Pokémon with below-average bulk. It beats the Water-types that don’t have access to Ice-type moves, along with Claydol and Diggersby. Losses will come from good/meta Pokémon.
The same is true for Ultra League, where Lurantis swaps Fury Cutter for Leafage. This will bring you wins against non-Ice, non-Poison Water-types. Losses will come from — you guessed it — good/meta Pokémon.
Finally, we have Master League, where bad Pokémon don’t even get a look in.
The Might and Mastery Season has arrived. Spring into Spring has returned for 2025 and Gossifleur has debuted in Pokémon Go. You can also work on both the Might and Mastery quest and A Striking Shadows Special Research for catching Marshadow. You can now catch Dynamax Pokémon through Max Battles. First, however, you need to visit Power Spots to collect Max Particles and complete the To the Max! quest. Don’t forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you’re hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.
What do shiny Fomantis and Lurantis look like?
The opportunity to catch a shiny form of the highlighted Pokémon is one of the biggest draws of any event. However, unlike Community Day, a Pokémon’s shiny odds aren’t increased during a Spotlight Hour event.
To find a shiny Pokémon, you need to either start a catch encounter with a Pokémon in the wild or earn said encounter by completing an activity, like a beating a Raid boss, hatching an Egg or completing research task. From there, it’s easy to see if you’ve encountered a shiny Pokémon due to its alternative colouring, the sparkles which shine when the encounter begins and the shiny icon next to the Pokémon’s name.
Shiny Fomantis was released on June 16th 2023, as part of the Solstice Horizons event. As you can see below, shiny Fomantis swaps its pink and red skin tone for a combo of gold and green — something conserved though evolution, with Lurantis doing the same.

These are perfectly mid shinies — which seems fitting for a Pokémon like Fomantis!
Other tips for this Spotlight Hour
Aside from trying to build a squadron of mediocre mantises in Pokémon Go, there are a couple of other good reasons to partake in this week’s Spotlight Hour:
- The best reason is, of course, the double evolution XP bonus running throughout the hour. This gives you the chance to gather a lot of XP very quickly, so you can raise your Trainer Level. The best way to do this is to have two Tags in your Pokémon storage dedicated to this hour. The first is stuff you want to evolve and keep — generally strong Pokémon and Pokémon you need to evolve to update your Pokédex — and thing you want to evolve and transfer. This second box should contain all of the 12-candy Pokémon. The search string to quickly find all of these at lower than 3* rating is: 0*,1*,2*&10,13,16,265,293,519&!shiny.
- If you’re a newcomer, this Spotlight Hour is the perfect time to collect enough Fomantis candy to fully evolve this Pokémon and register its evolutions in your Pokédex.
- Thanks to Fomantis being a Grass-type Pokémon, catching a bunch during this Spotlight Hour will add progress to your respective catch bonus medals.
Remember — Spotlight Hour events only last for an hour — 6pm to 7pm (local time). Come back next week for a primer on Morelull, with its double catch Stardust bonus!
Good luck finding a perfect Fomantis in Pokémon Go!
