Fox will be the place to go for animated comedies on broadcast television. After recently giving several animated shows big renewals, three more have been confirmed.
Per Deadline, Fox has just renewed the following animated shows: Krapopolis, Grimsburg, and Universal Basic Guys. The news follows the network recently giving four-season renewals of the long-running animated shows The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and American Dad!. In the case of American Dad!, the series also is making its return to Fox after making the move from TBS, though it originally aired its first nine seasons on Fox.
Krapopolis is currently in its second season, which is concluding this month. The show, created by Dan Harmon (Community, Rick and Morty), imagines a more zany version of ancient Greek lore where humans interact with gods and mythical creatures. It had previously been renewed through Season 4, and the new renewal by Fox will guarantee a fifth season of the show. Krapopolis, originally premiered in September 2023, features the voice talents of Hannah Waddingham, Richard Ayoade, and Matt Berry. Its Rotten Tomatoes approval rating is 56% but it has an audience score of 66%.
Grimsburg, another animated show that premiered in January 2024, has now been renewed through Season 3. Featuring Jon Hamm as the voice of a detective hoping to redeem himself after returning to the mysterious town of Grimsburg. The show also stars Erinn Hayes, Rachel Dratch, Alan Tudyk, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Greg Chun. Hamm also serves as an executive producer. The show has a Rotten Tomatoes approval rating of 63% with an audience score of 74%.
Fox had faith in the start in Universal Basic Guys, giving the show a two-season order before its debut. Its new renewal for Season 3 comes ahead of the show’s return for Season 2. It follows two brothers, Mark and Hank (Adam Malamut), who do their best to live on the $3,000 month they’re given after their jobs are lost to automation. Talia Genevieve, Fred Armisen, and Ally Maki are also among the voice actors. The show has a rough score of 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, but its audience score if significantly higher at 74%.
One Animated Fox Show Remains on the Bubble
This is great news for all of the shows given renewals, but fans of The Great North may be concerned. The show is the only animated series on Fox that remains on the bubble after the renewals of Krapopolis, Grimsburg, and Universal Basic Guys. The series debuted Season 5 in December 2024 and it remains unclear if it will get its renewal. It would be easy to see its omission from the latest round of renewals as a bad sign.
The Great North features the voices of Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, and Will Forte. Set in Alaska, the show follows a fisherman (Offerman) and divorced father of four doing his best to keep the family together. It has an audience score of 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.
