Bored of cyberpunk games that have you raging against the machine? Think things would be easier if you were actually working for the evil corporation? That’s where retro-futuristic western ExeKiller comes in, and a new gameplay trailer has just dropped, delving into its dusty FPS shenanigans.
ExeKiller, developed by Paradark Studio, is a semi open-world shooter where, as a corporate bounty-hunter, you head out from your hub base, the Tower, to do the bidding of the not-so-subtly named Hellion Corporation.
In place of the traditional horse, you roam the dusty zones in your own car. It’s not just for defence, either; your targets aren’t on your doorstep, you’ll have to put in some real work to find them. And with obstacles like dust storms to contend with, you’ll be glad for your trusty vehicle.
The new gameplay trailer, which you can watch below, has the developers delving into ExeKiller’s ins and outs. Aside from blasting enemies, it shows off some of your acrobatic abilities, which could be just as crucial in hunting down your bounties.
However, it appears you’re not just gunning down your targets or trussing them up. You use a device to relclaim their S.O.U.L, which appears to be a back-up of their consciousness. Even death is no escape from the 9-5 grind.
“Outside the tower lies a harsh, scorched desert”, explains Paradark. “Inventory space is limited.. forcing players to make careful decisions about what to carry and what to leave behind,” underlining the game’s survival elements.
“There’s no one way to complete a mission. Stealth, dialogue and combat are all valid approaches,” Paradark adds. The trailer’s final few seconds see a would-be target offering to have a duel with you, which has us grinning.
Why? Because we’re absolutely going to cheat if we can. What’s that? There was a remote bomb hidden in that garbage can? I wonder how that got there. Either that or, taking a leaf out of Jack Reacher’s playbook, we’re just going to fire on two.
ExeKiller doesn’t have a release date as yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam here, and follow developer Paradark Studio on Twitter.
