Winter is coming… A Game of Thrones movie has reportedly been given the go-ahead from Warner Bros., with Andor writer Beau Willimon set to pen the script.
Although the eighth and final season left a lot to be desired, the George R.R. Martin cinematic universe has ventured into pastures new in recent years, and to great success. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was a smash hit, and House of the Dragon Season 3 looks set to finally deliver the conflict we’ve been waiting for.
Martin also recently announced that a GoT prequel play is set to debut in the UK on The Mad King, centering on the fateful tourney at Harrenhal that led to Robert’s Rebellion.
But if you thought the flagship story was dead and buried, think again. According to a new report, we’re set to journey to Westeros again, only this time on the big screen.
Game of Thrones movie in the works
On Tuesday (March 3), The Wrap reported that Warner Bros. has ordered a Game of Thrones movie. And if that news concerns you, don’t fret, as apparently it’s in good hands.

House of Cards showrunner and Andor writer Beau Willimon is attached to write the screenplay. While little is known about the cast and plot, the outlet has learned that the film is “firmly in development.”
One possibility is that Warner Bros. opts for a standalone story set within Westeros rather than a direct sequel to Season 8. With the original finale dividing audiences, revisiting Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen’s aftermath, or King Bran’s reign could prove risky.

The news was first reported by Page Six Hollywood, with sources suggesting that it may focus on Aegon I Targaryen – the conquering Targaryen ruler who forged the Seven Kingdoms into one realm and founded the dynasty that would shape Westeros for generations.
For now, fans remain optimistic, with one writing, “After that ending we need this badly.” Another said, “Beau Willimon writing a GoT movie after Andor and House of Cards that level of political drama fits perfectly.”
“I’m intrigued. Would love to see post Season 8,” added a third, while a fourth said on Reddit, “I’ll be optimistic for now. They could do Roberts Rebellion, or the original conquering, or something that would lend itself to a shorter run time.”
