Gachiakuta is a dark shōnen manga series written and illustrated by Kei Urana which follows a young boy named Rudo, who lives on the edge of society in the slums of a wealthy society. Anything thrown away by the wealthy winds up at the slums, where the people on the fringes cast away by society, now called "tribesfolk", reside. Rudo lives with his adoptive father Regto. Below the town is a massive chasm called "The Pit", a place where the town discards all its unwanted, be it objects or people. One day, after rummaging through a dump site as he often did, Rudo finds Regto on the verge of death, stabbed with a large knife. He is immediately arrested and sentenced to The Pit, and as the offspring of a criminal, no one was willing to listen to his pleas.
When he comes to, Rudo finds himself in a massive, foul-smelling garbage dump where large amalgamations of living refuse called Trash Beasts immediately attack him. He is saved by a young man named Engine, who tells him that he wasn't cast into the pit, but to a surface world from a giant floating structure known as "The Sphere". Engine is part of an organization called the Cleaners that dispatches operatives known as "Givers"; those capable of making use of "Vital Instruments", objects of unique value that have developed a soul as a result of being cherished by their owner. Rudo accepts Engine's offer to join the Cleaners, as long as he can find a way back to The Sphere and make those who killed Regto pay.
