Animal Crossing Player Creates Awesome Mario Party-Inspired Island

Highlights

  • Animal Crossing player creates a Mario Party-themed board in New Horizons.
  • Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, a party game spin-off, was less successful.
  • Fans appreciate the creativity and enjoy customizing their islands in New Horizons.

An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player has made a Mario Party-themed board that's a surprisingly accurate representation of the Nintendo party game. Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives players tools to shape their island as they see fit, and this player has built an awesome tribute to the other Nintendo powerhouse title.

Animal Crossing isn't a complete stranger to party games itself. Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival came out back in 2015, which tried to take on the party board game phenomenon for itself, with amiibo integration. However, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival wasn't well-received, with critics and fans calling it cute but not exciting or particularly fun to play. Its launch on the struggling Wii U probably didn't help matters any, and the series hasn't returned to the party formula since. However, fans are always free to create their own party games in Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons player puppiggy shared their island development with fellow fans on Reddit. The video they uploaded shows their villager briefly running around the island, which has been decorated with a number of Mario-themed motifs, objects, and decorations set up. The ground has a series of colored circles denoting spots that players would move across, with threats of Thwomps hanging over head and shells spinning around. Mystery Blocks and a Star are also visible, and the entire course loops around to the beginning, completing the run.

Plenty of Animal Crossing and Mario Party fans have been enthusiastic about puppiggy's work, talking about how well done it is. One fan said that the creation had brought a big smile to their face, while another compared it to Amiibo Festival, saying that the fan's creation looked like it would be more fun than the actual Animal Crossing party title.

Animal Crossing Creativity Keeps it Going

Although updates for Animal Crossing: New Horizons have long come to an end and some fans are waiting for the next game, many players continue to enjoy New Horizons. The tools and options available to New Horizons players are arguably the most extensive the series has ever seen, and players keep finding new ways to customize their islands in ways that make them fun and interesting all over again.

For now, it remains to be seen how Nintendo will tackle the Animal Crossing series going forward. Whatever game follows New Horizons will have to do something to build upon its formula in exciting new ways if Nintendo hopes to match the popularity of the title.
