Astro Bot File Size Revealed, and It’s Surprisingly Big

Highlights

  • Astro Bot requires 66 GB of storage space, six times more than its predecessor.
  • The game features over 50 planets, 80 levels, and 150 PlayStation character cameos.
  • Astro Bot is a full-length 3D platformer sequel to Astro's Playroom, showcasing a more ambitious scope.

Team Asobi's upcoming Astro Bot file size has been revealed, requiring a total of 66 GB of space, which is surprisingly larger than one might have expected. Astro Bot is the sequel to one of the PS5's best games, Astro's Playroom, the latter game being a pack-in title for the console that demonstrated its capabilities. Unlike Playroom, Astro Bot is a full-length sequel, and is a fully-fledged 3D platforming experience.

Astro Bot was first revealed during the May 2024 State of Play Presentation, featured alongside other games like Silent Hill 2, Alien: Rogue Incursion, and more. Astro Bot stood out for a lot of PlayStation fans, as it was not only an impressive looking platformer experience, but several franchises under the brand were represented in the form of costumes. This includes representation and cameos of several Sony IPs, which include the likes of Uncharted, God of War, Journey, and even Parappa the Rappa. In this adventure, Astro will gain all sorts of abilities and power-ups to take on the enemies he runs into across the universe. While fans might expect a dense game with all sorts of platforming challenges, the game is revealed to be quite big, compared to Astro's Playroom.

A tweet from Genki_JPN showed the back of Astro Bot's physical box, which has a blurb that says players will require 66 GB of space. When compared to Astro Playroom and its file size, that is a substantial size increase. For reference, the file size of Astro's Playroom is 11.7 GB, which means Astro Bot is six times larger than its predecessor.

While Astro Bot's file size is much larger than Playroom's, that doesn't necessarily equate to the game's length or amount of content. That said, it does highlight how Astro Bot's scope is more ambitious than the previous game, with it featuring more than 50 planets that are split across six galaxies, with 80 levels in total to play through. In comparison, Astro's Playroom has five worlds themed after components of the PS5 console.

Astro Bot is also set to feature 150 different PlayStation character cameos in the form of several robots being dressed up in different costumes, with the reveal trailer showing robots based on Kratos, Aloy, and Nathan Drake, just to name a few. This game is looking to be an ambitious platformer that puts Astro in the spotlight and will contain plenty of references to PlayStation's entire library.
