Call of Duty Releases New MW3 and Warzone Updates for April 23

  • MW3 and Warzone updates fixed various bugs and improved gameplay.
  • The MW3 update addressed exploits like using rear grips on handguns and fixed map glitches; Warzone update fixed collision issues on Rebirth Island.
  • Fans can anticipate Season 3 Reloaded for new content like maps, modes, and weapons.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone have received new updates that fix bugs and introduce mostly minor improvements. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Ranked Play also saw a more significant change after a recent test period.

MW3's Ranked Play developer, Treyarch, announced earlier in April that certain Call of Duty weapons would be temporarily unbanned to evaluate whether they are viable in the mode. The unbanned weapons included the Holger 556, MTZ 556, BP50, HRM-9, and RAM-9. Most fans welcomed the change, as MW3's Ranked Play has featured a very limited selection of weapons for most of its lifespan. However, the window to try out these weapons has now concluded.

Modern Warfare 3's newest update ended Ranked Play's "Weapon Evaluation" phase and re-banned the previously mentioned weapons plus the WSP Swarm. Activision explained that the Call of Duty League, Sledgehammer, and other teams will discuss the test period's results, and, following the launch of Season 3 Reloaded in May, will share an update on any next moves. MW3's bug fixes seen in the update include a solution for an exploit that allowed players to use rear grips on handguns in a certain way to gain an unfair advantage, map glitches on 6 Star, Growhouse, and Tanked being removed, and a fix for a One in the Chamber bug that caused the last-standing player to receive a loss. The update also made challenge-based quickscope kills more lenient and easier to attain when using weapons that cannot one-shot kill.

Warzone's update consisted of three bug fixes. The first one fixed more of Rebirth Island's collision issues that allowed players to exploit the map, the next fixed an issue that caused the gas mask animation to not work properly, and the third fixed a bug that kept players from using UAVs while in a passenger seat.

That's it for this update, but fans can expect Call of Duty's next major update to arrive with Season 3 Reloaded, which is expected to start on May 1. Based on Call of Duty's roadmap for Season 3, the update could include two more 6v6 maps in Checkpoint and Grime, two modes in Minefield and Escort, the BAL-27 assault rifle, and new Zombies content for Modern Warfare 3. For Warzone, the update could include the Foresight killstreak, Specialist perk package, and Weapon Trade Stations.

Despite the new Zombies content possibly seeming like a glimmer of hope for fans, Treyarch recently confirmed that it's done working on the MW3 mode and has pivoted all its efforts to its next project, which is presumably Call of Duty 2024, heavily rumored to be titled Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War.
