An impressive concept video is providing fans with an intriguing look at what a Toy Story video game with present-day graphics would look like. As Pixar’s first feature-length movie and the first feature film made entirely with computer animation, the original Toy Story was a pioneering force for computer graphics and captured the imagination of 90s-era children when it first hit the silver screen. Three sequels and a Buzz Lightyear-focused spin-off have since been made, with a fifth Toy Story movie currently in production for 2026.
The Toy Story series has also made its mark in the world of video games, with the first three films each having their own fondly received tie-ins. There have also been numerous Toy Story spin-off games over the years, and Toy Story characters like Woody and Buzz have appeared in Disney-based crossover titles like Disney Infinity, Disney Mirrorverse, and Disney Dreamlight Valley. 2019’s Kingdom Hearts 3 even saw Sora and company visit the world of Toy Story to help Andy’s toys rescue their owner from the Heartless.
A YouTube user by the handle of TeaserPlay recently posted a concept video of what a new Toy Story video game with modern graphics could look like. This impressively rendered video shows Woody and Buzz exploring classic movie locations like Andy’s room and the Dinoco gas station, battling the Evil Emperor Zurg in Andy’s backyard, racing down the road atop the RC car, and gliding through the air toward Andy’s van like in the climax of the first movie.
A New Toy Story Game Could Be An Instant Classic
The wholesome Toy Story game concept video then ends on a sour note as Woody is discovered to be alive by Andy, causing the boy to faint as the "Wasted" text from Grand Theft Auto 5 flashes onscreen. Nonetheless, the graphics shown in this clip are incredibly lifelike, with some YouTube users in the comments section going as far as to claim that they are even better than the visuals in the Toy Story movies.
Toy Story would lend itself well to a GTA-like open-world experience, and 1999’s Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue played around with this idea by letting Buzz explore various environments with various goals and collectibles. The advancements of Unreal Engine 5 would also lead to some memorable visuals, as evidenced by TeaserPlay’s stunning concept video of Woody and Buzz on yet another interactive adventure in the Toy Story universe.
