Highlights
- Demon Slayer's final arc will be adapted into 3 movies, covering the story from the Hashira Training arc to the end.
- Ufotable will likely release each movie at least one hour long, possibly adding fillers.
- Demon Slayer has become one of the best-selling manga titles and anime series, with its popularity boosted by the anime adaptation.
Demon Slayer's fourth season came to an end on June 30, 2024, and while fans were still busy thinking about what to watch next, ufotable made a big announcement regarding the final arc of the series. The official X account (formerly Twitter) posted an announcement confirming the return of the anime. However, the studio would adopt a different strategy.
Instead of releasing a new season for the Infinity Castle arc, it would divide the remainder of the source material into three movies. Some might question the decision, but the franchise has found success in the past with this approach.
What Will The Three Movies Cover
The movie trilogy will cover everything after the Hashira Training arc, right up to the very end of the story. This means that the audience will be able to enjoy the conclusion of Tanjiro's adventure in three high-quality movies. A lot of fan favorites will be back in action, and they will elevate the series with their presence.
Presently, there is no release date for the movies, nor is there any update on the runtime for the three. Keeping in mind the previous movie release, each movie will likely be at least one hour long. The movies might expand on the source material and add fillers here and there. However, they will have to be careful and make sure that they add the scenes only if they don't affect the quality.
The Accolades
Demon Slayer started serializing in the Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016, and while it was a successful series, it only started to attract the attention of people around the world after the anime adaptation. The popularity of the anime boosted manga sales significantly, and in a short time, it managed to become one of the best-selling titles of all time.
Given its popularity, it was hardly surprising that the anime was renewed for another season along with a movie. After the conclusion of the initial season, the Mugen Train arc was covered in a movie, which went on to break records. It became the standard to which anime movies were compared. The second season of the anime started with a few episodes covering the Mugen Train arc, and it followed up with the adaptation of the Entertainment District arc. The third season focused on the Swordsmith Village, and the fourth covered the Hashira Training arc. With such a positive reception, there is hardly any doubt that Demon Slayer will go down as one of the best anime series of all time.
