Destiny 2 Player’s Mysterio-Themed Hunter is More Than Just Looks

Highlights

  • One Destiny 2 player transformed their character into Mysterio from the Marvel universe by expertly using in-game cosmetics.
  • The player also shared a list of every armor piece and shader required to create the look.

A Destiny 2 player has created the ultimate Marvel crossover by turning their Guardian into the infamous Spider-Man villain Mysterio using in-game cosmetics. Along with the uncanny resemblance, the player also built their Destiny 2 character to use abilities similar to Mysterio's in order to emulate playing as the villain and to get fully in character.

Cosmetics are a big draw in Destiny 2, with many players utilizing the game's countless pieces of armor to create unique outfits and personas for their Guardians as they travel throughout the galaxy. This player's Mysterio cosplay is one of many examples of players using in-game cosmetics to create virtual costumes, with another notable player recently turning their Guardian into the creepypasta icon Slenderman.

Reddit user SoliloquyZero shared an image of their Guardian on the DestinyFashion subreddit decked out in gear and shaders making them appear like the master illusionist Mysterio from the Marvel universe. The player, who also shared a list of every armor item and shader used to create the getup, quickly impressed fans with their dedication.

Gear and Shaders Used To Make Mysterio In Destiny 2

  • Helmet: Limitless Subversion Casque with the Shards of Stillness Shader
  • Arms: Aphotic Lamellar Grips with the Twisting Strands Shader
  • Chest: Aphotic Lamellar Vest with the Twisting Strands Shader
  • Legs: Default Ornament with the Atmospheric Glow Shader
  • Cloak: Wild Hunt Cloak with the Nectar Dynamo Shader

While Mysterio originally hails from Marvel's Spider-Man comic books, the user posted their Guardian alongside the live-action iteration of the character from the Marvel Studios film Spider-Man: Far From Home, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal. The resemblance isn't perfect given the limitations of the cosmetics available in Destiny 2, but it impressed fans in the comments nonetheless, with most showering the user with praise for their work.

Aside from simply looking like Mysterio, the player's Guardian can also create duplicates of themselves using the Clone ability from the Prismatic Hunter build in Destiny 2. In the Marvel comics from which he hails, Mysterio is known for being deceptive and using similar tactics to fight Spider-Man and other opponents, similar to how the Hunter's Clone ability works.

Some fans pointed out that it might make more sense for Mysterio to be a Warlock, one of the other classes in Destiny 2, considering its stronger focus on magic abilities, but the user claimed that the Hunter's cape worked better aesthetically. In any case, this user may have some competition, as another player has taken a similar approach to transform their Guardian into Spider-Man, Mysterio's longtime archenemy who is sure to be running around somewhere in the game.
