There are a few ways to find Melve in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but unless you are at the start of the game, it’s easiest to just take an Oxcart.
This article is part of a directory: Dragon's Dogma 2 Guide Hub — Quests, Vocations, Pawns, Equipment, & More
The opening to Dragon's Dogma 2 whisks players through the game's introductory cutscenes, a brief tutorial in the Excavation Site, and ultimately ends up dropping the Arisen off somewhere in northern Vermund. The Arisen is found by a patrol, and brought back to Borderwatch, but soon after they are instructed to go to Melve.
Melve is a location that the Arisen will have to visit as part of the main quest. In Borderwatch, there are a few side quests and areas to explore nearby, but eventually there isn't much else to do but head to Melve. This guide to how to get to Melve details two routes – one for DD2 players just starting out, one for players later in the game who want to return to Melve for quests – or to unlock a powerful and flashy new Vocation.
Updated April 12th, 2024 by Russ Boswell: Making it to Melve in Dragon's Dogma 2 can be a bit confusing for players who don't know how to travel back there from the main hub city. Although players can walk there, it's a long and arduous trek just to make it back. Thankfully, players can snag an Ox Cart and ride it all the way to the singed town, saving them a lot of time and effort. To better show players how to take the Ox Cart to Melve in Dragon's Dogma 2, the following guide now includes a video.
Dragon's Dogma 2 Melve Location
Melve is located south of Borderwatch Outpost, and players heading there for the first time should follow either one of the southward roads to get there. But later in the game, if you want to return to Melve, Dragon's Dogma 2's lack of a Fast Travel system means you'll have to make it there on foot – or by Oxcart.
On the world map, when fully zoomed out, Melve is located close to the very northern edge of the world map. The majority of the beginning of the game takes place in the northern reaches of Vermund – if you're far away, consider using a Ferrystone to teleport to the Portcrystal in Vernworth to cut back on travel time.
How To Get To Melve — From Borderwatch
When you are ready to head to Melve from Borderwatch Outpost, head to the Outpost's southwest or southeast exits.
- The southwest road will turn south, then split into west and southeast paths – keep following the main path, which leads west. After a few minutes' travel you will come to another fork in the road. Take the path south, not the one that turns northwest, and follow it as it winds around the mountains to a bridge that leads to Melve, where you will be able to rest up, continue the main quest, and pick up a few new Vocational skills.
- The southeast road will lead southeast, then sharply turn southwest. And aside from a small bump in the road that turns west, and then south, this road is relatively easy to follow – except for the Goblins and Bandits, that is.
How To Get To Melve — From Vernworth
Players looking to return to Melve later on in the game should first locate the settlement (at the very north of the world map). Depending on how far it is from your current location, either plan a route on foot, take an Ox Cart to Vernworth, or use a Ferrystone to fast travel to the Vernworth Portcrystal. Once in the capital, head to the northeast side of the city to reach the Melve Oxcart station.
Wait here until an Oxcart arrives, then pay the toll to get whisked away to Melve. Speed up the trip by pressing the Doze Off input, but be warned that your sleep might be interrupted by a group of Bandits, Goblins, or something much worse.
