Fallout: Nuevo Mexico Mod Gets Disappointing Update

Highlights

  • Fallout: Nuevo Mexico development has been put on indefinite hold, leaving fans disappointed after months of anticipation.
  • Project lead Zapshock stepping away has caused uncertainty for the future of the mod, with no clear plans for its continuation.
  • Fallout: London continues development, while fans hope for a more promising update on Fallout: Nuevo Mexico in the future.

Fans of the acclaimed Fallout video game series have just received a disappointing update on the highly-anticipated release of Fallout: Nuevo Mexico. After months of radio silence, it has recently been confirmed that development on the Fallout: New Vegas mod has been halted indefinitely.

The Fallout mod has been in development for several years. If it's ever released, Nuevo Mexico will take players on an adventure five years after the events of the original Fallout game. Production has been ongoing with the release of trailers and interviews taking place over the course of the last three years. However, Nuevo Mexico "went dark" about two months ago, and the latest update seems to confirm it has been put on hold indefinitely.

Nuevo Mexico's head of public relations, J.K-Serling, took to the mod's Discord server earlier this week to address speculation and questions about the future of the game. As reported by VG247, Serling stated that "the project has been on hold for some time, and Zapshock [project lead on the Nuevo Mexico mod] has decided to step back from active participation in the community. For now, Zapshock won't be available on Discord or any social media platforms." Serling continued, saying that they would be taking over responsibilities and would be the point of contact going forward, but didn't elaborate on what responsibilities they'd be taking on. They also thanked the fans for their "understanding and continued support of Fallout: Nuevo Mexico."

Fallout: Nuevo Mexico Delayed Indefinitely

Fallout: Nuevo Mexico is just one of several mods currently in development for the Fallout franchise. With the mod's project lead stepping away from development, it does seem as though Nuevo Mexico has officially been put on an indefinite hiatus. VG247 also claims that other modders and voice actors connected to the project were unaware of this update prior to the announcement from Serling. Earlier this year, the Nuevo Mexico social channels were cleared of previous content, including the mod's YouTube channel and Discord server, prompting rumors and questions about what was happening behind the scenes. Despite confirming that development has been on hold, no reason for Zapshock's depature, or whether the team would look for a replacement, was given.

As Fallout: Nuevo Mexico faces a very uncertain future, the other upcoming mod, Fallout: London, has continued its development despite a series of delays following a next-gen update of Fallout 4 from Bethesda. Hopefully, fans will not have to wait too long for more promising developments on Fallout: Nuevo Mexico, although the current reactions seem to accept that development on Nuevo Mexico may be completely dead.
