Final Fantasy 16 voice actor Ben Starr, who plays protagonist Clive Rosfield, has humorously chimed in about a particular Cid – known in the series as a recurring character who's appeared in nearly all its entries. Starr, a self-professed fan of the franchise, has commented on previous Final Fantasy games with his opinions on various elements.
Final Fantasy 16, the latest installment in the nearly 40-year-old series, released in June 2023 to rave reviews. Many gamers expressed favor of its more mature tone, which is a bit of a departure from the usually lighthearted tone of the franchise. One of the factors that helped the game achieve this atmosphere was Starr's work as the gruff and brooding protagonist, who carries the burden of a world-saving quest after losing some loved ones early in his life.
In an interview with TheGamer, Starr names Final Fantasy 12's Cid as the worst incarnation of the recurring character, saying that he would kill him in a game of Kiss, Marry, Kill. This opinion makes sense, as the game's Doctor Cid is the first and only villainous version in the whole series. Doctor Cid is the chief scientist in the Archadian Empire's Draklor Laboratory, and the uncaring father of the playable hero Balthier, who hides the fact that he's Cid's son. "I would kill Cid from Final Fantasy 12 — I genuinely think he's one of the most abhorrent characters in the pantheon of Cids," Starr said.
Details On the Upcoming Final Fantasy 16 DLC
- The Rising Tide release date: April 18, 2024
- Launch time: 12:00 AM EST
- Estimated price: $20
Nearly a year after its release, Final Fantasy 16 is going strong in its lifespan, with new story content coming in its The Rising Tide DLC on April 18. The expansion is set to flesh out important elements in the game's lore, and players are really looking forward to more things to do in the game. The first DLC, Echoes of the Fallen, added some story parts that happen just before the final battle, while The Rising Tide will explore the aftermath.
One of the expected story threads of The Rising Tide is the return of the Eikon Leviathan, which was teased in the main game but was conspicuously absent. This chapter will reportedly focus on Leviathan's resurrection, and will presumably add it to Clive's collection of Eikons to tap into. Clive is able to choose from a vast collection of Eikons, from Ifrit, Phoenix, Titan, Garuda, Shiva, Bahamut, and Odin, and new in-game abilities and powers will be a treat for fans.
The Rising Tide is also set to add new character Shula, who will apparently aid Clive and his party in rescuing the Dominant of Leviathan, or the person who is able to summon the Eikon. Shula is also a resident of the new game area Mysidia, signifying that there's a lot for players to explore and discover in the DLC. Final Fantasy fans will have a lot to be busy with soon, though there's no word yet about any other DLC coming after this.
