Free PS Plus Games for August 2024 Are Available Now

The free PlayStation Plus games for August 2024 are now available to claim. PlayStation Plus members have until early September to do so.

Sony's subscription service introduces new free games to claim on the first Tuesday of every month. The July 2024 batch of PS Plus freebies included Among Us, Borderlands 3, NHL 24, and some bonus Genshin Impact content.

This time around, Sony is giving away Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. PS Plus subscribers can claim all three of these games starting today, August 6. As is normally the case, the free PS Plus games for August 2024 are available until the first Monday of the following month, which falls on September 2, in this instance.

This latest batch of freebies is largely action-oriented, with the sole exception of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach. The most acclaimed member of this trio is Ender Lilies, which boasts an OpenCritic aggregate score of 85, as well as an immense 89% reviewer recommendation rate. Many critics praised Ender Lilies as a stellar example of modern metroidvanias, not least because of its tight controls, varied level design, and a feeling of poignant melancholy that it evokes, among other qualities.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga boasts similar acclaim, as reflected in its 82 aggregate score and 88% reviewer recommendation rate on OpenCritic. It's also the most content-packed title from the August 2024 selection of PS Plus freebies, with HowLongToBeat data suggesting a speedy run through The Skywalker Saga will take around 19 hours. Seeing everything that this 2022 game has to offer is a much more time-consuming affair that could require north of 85 hours.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach doesn't have comparable renown to its name; with an OpenCritic reviewer recommendation rate of 50%, this is by far the most polarizing title that PS Plus subscribers can claim at no extra cost in August 2024. Even so, Security Breach received quite a bit of plaudits for improving on the gameplay variety of its predecessors and maintaining the series' signature levels of tension. A lot of the early complaints directed at the game were centered on its technical issues, which were always worse on PC than PlayStation consoles. As such, Security Breach is still a game that Five Nights at Freddy's fans with a PS Plus membership will likely find worth experiencing.
