Funny Elden Ring Fail Shows Yosh Spirit Summon Getting Too Fancy For Its Own Good

Highlights

  • Shadow of the Erdtree's Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh is one of the most agile Spirit Ashes in all of Elden Ring.
  • But its acrobatic tendencies can also work to its disadvantage, as illustrated by one recently shared gameplay clip showing Yosh needlessly backflipping into oblivion.

One Elden Ring player has recently found themselves let down by their Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh after the allied creature backflipped into oblivion in the midst of a battle. The clip of the funny incident was later promulgated on social media, underlining one key weakness of this Shadow of the Erdtree Spirit Ash.

The critically acclaimed DLC expanded the base game's pool of Spirit Ashes by nearly one-third. Among the 20 new Elden Ring Spirit Ashes introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree is Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh, a crafty little fellow who has a tendency to chip away at opponents while effectively dancing around them. Coupled with its short stature and pointy-eared design, its acrobatic skills have been evoking comparisons with Star Wars' Master Yoda ever since Shadow of the Erdtree's release.

Elden Ring's Yosh Doesn't Have Strong Self-Preservation Instincts

And while Yosh's agility can be a huge asset in battle, it doesn't always work to its benefit. Reddit user BruteTigrex21 can attest to that fact, having recently witnessed the Demi-Human plummet to its death due to getting a little too fancy for its own good. Specifically, the duo was advancing over the Ellac Bridge south of Shadow of the Erdtree's Castle Ensis, navigating between barricades and ballista fire, when they encountered a lone Messmer's army soldier. BruteTigrex21 decided to let Yosh handle the enemy, with the Demi-Human starting out strongly. But when the time came to deliver the killing blow, Yosh decided to do a backflip despite standing at the very edge of the bridge, consequently plunging to its death.

The silly footage of this combat fail later made the rounds on social media, much to the amusement of many Elden Ring fans. Aside from its pure entertainment value, the clip also serves to underline one of the biggest flaws of

Demi-Human Swordsman Yosh , which would be its rudimentary AI. Without the ability to recognize situations that are too dangerous for performing crazy acrobatics, this Yoda-like creature should not be deployed in any scenarios wherein falling to one's death is a concern.

Beyond that, Yosh also doesn't have a huge health bar, presumably because it's quite adept at dodging. But that still limits its uses in many boss battles, particularly those taking place in the Land of Shadow. Namely, many Elden Ring:Shadow of the Erdtree bosses have access to devastating area-of-effect attacks that are as challenging to dodge for Yosh as they are for the player. Between that and the Demi-Human's high summoning cost of 129 FP, this Spirit Ash isn't the most versatile companion, but can still be useful when fighting bosses like Malenia, who largely rely on single-target attacks.
