Fallout 4's biggest mod to date, Fallout London, has finally been released, and with it comes a whole host of new features and locations for players. For the first time ever, players can explore what The Great War did to countries outside of the United States (at least from fans' perspectives; Bethesda is still tight-lipped about it).
While the mod was only released on GOG, it is compatible with both the GOG and Steam versions of Fallout 4. This means that, thanks to players on the mod's Discord server, players can tweak things on their Steam Decks to allow the game to run on there as well. Here's a guide to doing just that on a Steam Deck.
This may seem like a difficult process, but it is easier than it originally looks.
How To Download Fallout: London On A Steam Deck
Close
First, before players can get started with this process, they will need to make sure that they have the following on their Steam Deck (and the Steam Deck must be in desktop mode):
- Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition (the mod requires all the game's DLCs except for the High-Resolution Texture Pack)
- 200 GB of free space (thankfully, players only need this during the installation process)
- The Heroic Games Launcher (from the Discover Store)
- The Fallout: London Downgrader Tool from Nexus Mods (the Linux version is required)
Once players have all of this done, they can then begin the process of actually downloading the mod. To do so, follow these steps:
- Download the game
- Put the Steam Deck into desktop mode
- Use the Heroic Games Launcher to sign into GOG and "purchase" Fallout: London (the game is free, but it will still say purchase)
- Go to Heroic Games Launcher's library and install the mod
- Download the downgrader tool and extract it from the ZIP file it is in
- Load the tool, log into Steam, and select the location of the game (it is automatically /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4/)
- Select the option to downgrade the version of the game
- Navigate to the folder with the mod and find the installer (the automatic location should be /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Fallout London/)
- Right-click on the installer and select the option to add it to Steam
- Go to Steam and change the installer's compatibility to Proton 9.0-2 (to do this, just go to the preferences menu for it)
- Launch the installer using the Steam shortcut option and navigate to where the game is installed (/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4/)
- After the installation is finished, close the installer and bring over the game's INI files
- To do this, go to the /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Fallout London/_Config folder and find the 3 files labeled .INI
- Transfer those 3 files to the /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/377160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Fallout4/ folder
- Repeat step 12 but with the files in the AppData folder
- To do this, go to the /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Fallout London/_AppData folder
- Transfer all those files to the /home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/377160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Fallout4/ folder
- Move the Fallout4.ini file to the launcher
- To do this, go to the /home/deck/Games/Heroic/Fallout London/_Config folder and find the file labeled "Fallout4.ini"
- Transfer that to the /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4/ folder
- Disable Cloud Saving and play the game!
