Citizens’ approval is an important stat in Manor Lords, determining the settlement’s growth and public order. There are several ways players can raise citizens’ approval, including building a church, lowering tax rates, and promoting entertainment.

While the church serves as the faith center, taverns provide a source of entertainment. However, taverns remain non-functional unless they’re stocked up with ale. Production of ale is a complex process involving a series of steps, including farming, building a malthouse, and establishing a brewery. Players trying to understand how to make ale in Manor Lords should find this guide helpful.

Start With Cultivating Barley

Players can cultivate multiple crops on Manor Lords, including barley. Before sowing the crop, it’s highly advised to inspect the land to determine its fertility. Players can judge the land’s fertility by following these steps:

  1. From the Construction menu, navigate to farming, and then select field.
  2. With the field selected, the ground will change colors to highlight high and low fertility areas. Areas in green are the most fertile lands.
  3. In case there are multiple fertile lands in the region, players can determine which fertile lands are most conducive for barley cultivation by selecting it from the crop list on the right.
  4. Once the most fertile land has been determined, players can proceed to create a field.
  5. Next, click on the newly created field to bring up the farming menu. Now, select barley from available crops.
  6. The next step involves creating a farmhouse and assigning a few citizens to farm the land. These citizens will start sowing and harvesting the chosen crop every year.

Keep in mind that crops are always harvested in September. However, players can choose to harvest them early with a 15% drop in yield.

Convert Barley To Malt

The next step in the ale-making process is converting the harvested barley into malt. This can be achieved by building a Malthouse. The Malthouse is a structure available under the industry section of the Construction menu. Once Malthouse is built, players can assign a citizen to this building, who manages the conversion of barley to malt.

Establishing Brewery & Making Ale

The final process in brewing ale is to upgrade a burgage plot to level 2. With the burgage plot upgraded, players can extend the building to a brewery. To extend a burgage plot, click the structure to pull up the context menu, followed by clicking the gear icon to choose the brewery extension. It’s worth noting that citizens residing within the extended burgage plot will now turn into brewers. Moreover, once a burgage plot is extended, the inhabitants can no longer participate in construction tasks.

With the brewery established, citizens will automatically transfer malt to the brewery to prepare ale. At this stage, players can build a tavern and assign citizens to it, enabling the transfer of ale from brewery to tavern. Soon, players should notice citizens visiting the tavern, having a good time, and approving their lord.
