During the final month of Metaphor: ReFantazio, the player will be faced with the Trials of Dragons, which will have you face three powerful dragons followed by the base game’s secret boss. The Devourer of Flames is one of these dragons and has a difficult gimmick that makes it normally impossible to beat unless you prepare properly.

It’s recommended you face this dragon last, even though the Devourer Of Stars seems stronger, as the other two will give armor that makes this fight much easier to deal with. Here’s how to prepare for this dragon to make the actual battle much easier.

The most important part of this battle is getting gear that nullifies or repels fire damage, as every three turns the dragon will use a unique attack that deals 9,999 fire damage no matter your buffs or guarding. In total, there are four gear pieces that nullify fire damage:
Item Name |
Where To Get It |
---|---|
Cardinal Dragon Raiment |
|
Flameseal Corselet |
|
Crimson Split Shoes |
|
Cardinal Dragon Robe |

Make sure each party member has one of these items equipped, no matter how much it messes with your build. If possible, also equip gear that resists charm, but only if you can still have the nullify fire item also equipped. Bring a party member with Ren Patra through Skill Inheritance if you everyone can’t resist charm. Also bring a party member with Makarakarn and Dekaja and Dekunda, with everything else just focusing on dealing a lot of damage.
This boss absorbs fire but has no other resistances or weaknesses.

With a party that all resists fire, this boss can almost become laughably easy depending on the skills he uses. Outside of basic attacks, most of the skills from this boss are fire skills and will be nullified, instantly ending his turn. Every third turn, he’ll use the super attack that will do nothing and also be nullified. If you have one party member who doesn’t resist fire, use Makarakarn on them to also protect them and have your party set up for a powerful counterattack.
Like the other dragons, this boss will prioritize its turn maximizing its attack before actually attacking. Keep using Dekaja each turn to make sure it also wastes a Press Turn icon buffing itself before attacking. The only other major threat to worry about is the party getting charmed, as you’re more likely to damage each other than this boss is to damage you. Prioritize curing charm whenever it appears, and otherwise max out your attack before focusing on using your strongest attacks.

The Utilitarian’s Manual combo with Royal Sword from the Prince Archetype deals a lot of damage. Using a Royal Masked Dancer’s Hellfire Dance followed by the Royal Summoner’s Summon Dragon God will also help debuff the enemy while making a weakness to exploit. As long as you are properly prepared for this fight with fire resistance, it’ll be the easiest dragon yet.
