The latest update for Minecraft is live with a cute new critter, the Armadillo, along with eight wolf skin variations and the new Wolf Armor item. Available for the Java and Bedrock versions of the game, players will be able to find the Armadillo and new wolves as soon as Minecraft is brought up to date.

A unique survival game, Minecraft encompasses a massive open world with various biomes, creatures, and locations to discover. Players can discover Minecraft's unusual villages, build a deluxe mansion, or hunt the scariest of terrors across the land. The Armored Paws drop adds new features and ways for players to interact with wolves in their worlds.

The Armored Paws update brings a new critter to life: the Armadillo. It can be found in the savannah or badlands Minecraft biomes, and it rolls up into a block to protect itself when threatened, just like in real life. These threats include zombies, skeletons, Wither, and other hostile mobs. Armadillos can also be scared by fast-moving creatures, like that of a running wolf pack or character. They do a great job at scaring away spiders since their favorite treat is spider eyes. They drop what's known as scute, which is necessary for crafting the new Wolf Armor. Armadillos only drop scutes at random or when thoroughly brushed, however, so there is no need to slay them.

Armadillos and Wolf Variants Released into the Wild in Minecraft's Armored Paws Update

Though wolves have been in the game for a while, there are eight new wolf skins for the Minecraft creature. Pale, black ashen, chestnut, rusty, striped, woods, spotted, and snowy wolves can all join players on their adventures. Along with the variants, wolves can be protected with armor. The armor is completely customizable and comes with body and collar segments. It protects players' fluffy companions from all damage until it breaks. It can be repaired using more Armadillo scutes, similar to patching up an iron golem.

Players should be prepared to scour the savannah and badlands in search of armadillo scutes if they want to outfit their wolves with armor. They should keep an eye out for pink blocks as well as the walking mob, as they may have been recently startled.

Each variant of wolf is found in a different biome and can be tamed. While being protected with armor is a significant upgrade for the loyal companion, there's still room for additional updates to expand on interactions with the mob in Minecraft. Additionally, the armadillo can't be tamed and has to be snuck up on in order to brush it. This can be a disappointment for players who want to create a zoo-type base with a variety of animal mobs.
