Monster Hunter Now: Long Sword Build for High Damage

To compete against some of the strongest beasts in Monster Hunter Now, it's best to collect some of the strongest weapons of each class and equip their warrior with the best armor. These tools go hand-in-hand with the player's ability to pull victory from the claws of the monsters they take down.

As of this writing, there are nine different classes of weapons, from the Sword and Shield to the Light Bowgun; there is an option for every type of player. Each class of weapon comes with its own tailored strengths and weaknesses, which provide players with various different playing styles. Whether it's rushing into a fight and swinging away or taking the tactical approach and dodging monster blows for a solid counterattack, each weapon gives those abilities to do so. For players who strive for the counterattack system, the Long Sword is the best option. Not only is this class the most popular among Monster Hunter Now players, but it's also one of the fastest weapon classes to dish out punishment.

Monster Hunter Now: Long Sword Build for High Damage

Early into Monster Hunter Now, players won't have to worry about building up a variety of different weapons to take monsters down. The field beasts are easy to defeat, using the basic weapon provided and a couple of swings, but that will change later. The elemental classes are introduced, and monsters will also be able to cause status effects that can do long-term damage to the player. Proper preparations are in order, and having the best weapons and skills available will be the difference between success and failure. This guide will cover some of the best Long Sword options and what armor pieces work best in conjunction with Long Sword users.

Best Long Swords

  • Jyura Shotel — For the Water-based attackers, Jyura Shotel is the best of its class but the weakest of the four listed Long Swords. Once players hit G8 with this weapon, the Level 1 Last Stand skill will unlock, granting the user an increase to their defense if their HP drops below 29%.
  • Glacial Shotel — Glacial Shotel is an excellent weapon for dealing with monsters who have a weakness against Ice-based attacks. Its Devine Blessing skill also grants players a chance to reduce the damage taken from a monster's attack, and this skill goes up to Level 2 once G8 is reached.
  • Usurper's Boltslicer — This Thunder-based Long Sword will zap anything down to size with a tremendous elemental attack stat and base power. The Artful Dodger skill will make players hard to hit, and once they fill their SP Gauge to the max, it's lights out for the monster.
  • Wyvern Blade "Fall" — Dealing with the roar of a monster is tricky in most situations, but thanks to this Long Sword's Level 1 Earplugs, there's a better chance of avoiding this problem altogether. Wyvern Blade "Fall" is the best Long Sword available, and its Fire-based elemental attacks will take care of many monsters on the roster.

Best Armor for Long Sword Users

  • Kulu Headpiece — The Lock On skill is one of the five best skills to equip a Long Sword wielder with. It allows players to target the vital spots of a monster, making it easier to bring it down quickly and earn a higher ranking after a battle.
  • Anja Mail — Anja Mail comes with Special Boost, which amplifies the skills of all weapons and armor by a small amount. Any help players can get with increasing the potential of each skill could be taken, especially when striking with something as quick as a Long Sword.
  • Pukei Mail — Alternatively, avoiding any poison infliction will be vital against certain monsters, and Pukei Mail offers a small resistance to this status effect. Pukei Mail also increases the player's Focus skill, which builds up the special gauge faster, but this shouldn't be a priority for Long Sword users.
  • Rathian Vambraces — These Vambraces are likely the best option for most Long Sword builds, as they amplify the Lock On skill while giving a Level 2 Burst skill. This ability increases the player's attack power by 10% for four seconds after consecutive blows land, and this will be a common occurrence for this weapon class.
  • Girros Vambraces — Girros Vambraces offer a different style, with the Sneak Attack and Earplugs skill. This will further prevent a monster's roar from causing any effects, while Sneak Attack increases the power of an attack that is landed from behind the monster.
  • Kadachi Coil — This piece of armor will work wonders when combined with the Usurper's Boltslicer weapon, as it comes packed with a Level 1 Thunder Attack skill, which boosts all Thunder-based attacks by 50. Upgrading it to six stages will double that boost and make every strike electrify the monster.
  • Rathalos Coil — Rathalos Coil pairs well with Wyvern Blade "Fall" thanks to its boost in Fire-elemental attacks, and some extra attention to Focus will go a long way. For players looking to bring the heat, this combination is the best bet against monsters who get burned easily.
  • Kulu Greaves — Critical Eye is one of the most important skills for Long Sword users to have, as it increases the critical hit ratio, which in turn will raise the player's DPS. Regardless of any weapon and armor combination, the Kulu Greaves are a must for Long Sword users and can't be replaced by any other of this category.
