Dark Dragon Liu Kang is the final boss of Season 8 of Invasions Mode. Mortal Kombat 1 players will square off against this deadly variant at the end of the Tarkotan Colony Mesa, although before they can do so, they’ll first need to get their hands on the Pet Food key item to get passed the nearby locked gate.
After doing so, they’ll find that the Dark Dragon boss fight is broken up into three phases, the third of which begins with a barrage of devastating projectiles. Thankfully, there are a few simple strategies for avoiding these projectiles, which can make beating The Dark Dragon a whole lot easier for Mortal Kombat 1 players.
How to Beat the Final Boss of Season 8 of Invasions Mode (Dark Dragon Guide)
Those hoping to beat Dark Dragon Liu Kang should make sure that they choose the right kombatant. His attacks deal both Fire and Dark elemental damage, although it’s the latter that players should be focussing on here. Kombatants with Dark typing take more and deal less damage from Magic-type kombatants, making Kitana, Sindel, and Kung Lao excellent options for this fight. When it comes to stats, players should make sure they have at least 45 Health and 35 Defense, which may require them to respec their stat points.
Once the fight gets started, players should proceed as usual, although there are two attacks that they’ll want to watch out for. The first sees Liu Kang jump high up into the air and then slam down into the ground a few moments later, while the second sees him charge a pink ki blast. For the former, players should move to the left or right immediately after he jumps. For the ki blast, they’ll want to quickly get behind him and hit him with everything they have.
At the beginning of the third phase, players will need to dodge some dragon-shaped projectiles that move both horizontally and vertically across the screen. Like in previous Invasions Mode boss fights, the pattern that these projectiles take is the same every time, so with a little bit of practice, players can figure out the best way to dodge them. Alternatively, there are a few easier strategies for those who lack the time and patience for this approach.
Players can use a Translucency Field konsumable before the fight to nullify all projectile damage. Translucency Fields can be purchased from the Gateway Portal shop, although players may need to wait for the shop’s inventory to cycle a few times to get one to show up. Alternatively, they can just low block for the entire projectile section and then quickly use the Blood Brawler talisman that they got after completing the IEC GEA Klue to completely restore their health.
