A brand-new teaser trailer has been released that reveals the launch of a new Five Nights at Freddy's game, titled Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic. Developed by Steel Wool Games, this will be the first mainline release for the Five Nights at Freddy's series since 2023's Help Wanted 2.
Five Nights at Freddy's is seeing incredible success lately, with an upcoming high-profile collaboration with Dead by Daylight, a film sequel set to launch next year, and the series' most ambitious title, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, currently free on PS Plus. All of these releases and events are tied together to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the original Five Nights at Freddy's title, initially launched on August 8, 2014.
The newest trailer from Steel Wool Studios shows off Five Nights at Freddy's Secret of the Mimic, with a short 42-second video teaser, detailing a music box and an animatronic peeking out from inside it. As the footage burns away, the date 1979 can be seen, and combining this with the video description stating that "to see the future sometimes you need to understand the past," Secret of the Mimic seems to be a prequel. If the game is set in 1979, it will be the earliest any Five Nights at Freddy game has been set in the timeline. If this is the case, Five Nights at Freddy's: Secret of the Mimic could be a goldmine for hidden lore previously unknown to fans.
