Understanding respawn timers is key to farming out resources and experience in No Rest for the Wicked. Here is how it works.
Money, resources, and experience in No Rest for the Wicked are valuable commodities players will always find themselves short of at every point in the game. Veterans of the Soulslike genre will expect to see all resources and enemies respawned every time they die, a standard mechanic in almost all Souls games. That is not how it works here.
While at first glance, it might appear that defeated monsters and depleted resources don’t respawn at all, this is also not the case. Once certain conditions are met, enemies start to respawn, and resources like ore deposits, trees, and herbs start to regrow, allowing players to farm for resources and experience. Here is how this mechanic works and how players can take advantage of it.
When Do Resources Respawn in No Rest for the Wicked?
Resources respawn once enough time has passed, though there is no definitive trigger. The only indicator of when resources respawn in an area is the reappearance of the Fog of War. As players explore the map, the Fog of War is lifted from areas they explore. But once they leave, it starts to creep back in, covering the map once again in darkness. Once this happens, players can check back on claimed chests, depleted ore veins, cut trees, fishing spots, and dig spots to see if they've respawned. Not all resources respawn at once, it's a gradual recovery that takes time. Terrain may also shift in certain areas, though this only happens in select locations.
Players will need tools like the Woodcutter’s Axe, Shovel, Fishing Rod, and a Pickaxe to harvest resources.
When Do Enemies Respawn in No Rest for the Wicked?
Enemies will only start respawning after players unlock the in-game clock, the day-night cycle, and the ability to fast-travel. To do so, you’ll need to defeat Warrick the Torn (the first boss) and interact with the Sacrament Whisper. Once this happens, enemies will start appearing in areas players have previously cleared out. This also means that players cannot farm levels by killing smaller enemies before fighting Warrick, forcing them to face the boss at an even footing.
In general, enemies take longer to respawn than resources, so if a player revisits an area with Fog of War as soon as it appears, they may only find resources and no enemies to fight. Once they do respawn, players will face different variations of enemies than what they encountered on their first go-through. Regular enemies can be replaced by elite variants, though this doesn’t always happen.
Bosses like Warrick the Torn and Falstead Darak do not respawn once defeated.
