Before Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom players can start the ‘One Soldier Too Many‘ side quest, they must clear the Hyrule Castle «dungeon» and the rift in town. Once everything in Hyrule Castle Town returns to normal, you’ll see a pair of guards in front of the southern entrance/exit. Speak to the one with the red bubble above him to start the ‘One Soldier Too Many’ quest. This guide will show you how to get it done and what the reward is.

Speak to the guard, and you’ll learn that his name is Beecher and that General Wright has asked him to find out who the extra guard is that has come from the rift. They think there’s an Echo prying around that doesn’t belong, so it’s up to Zelda to do some sleuthing to figure out what’s going on.
The first thing you should do is speak to the guard that’s on the bridge to the left of the well (in front of the Barracks). We used some water block echoes to reach him.
The soldier mentions to Zelda that every guard has their equipment managed at the Barracks, so she should check out to see if any gear is unaccounted for.
Go inside the Barracks and speak with the guard there to start a brief scene. You’ll essentially learn that one of the soldiers in town has damaged equipment, and that’s who the fake is. Luckily, you don’t need to travel far to find the phony.
Head outside and speak to the guard standing next to the well. If you look closely at his spear, the tip is missing.
Head back inside the barracks to answer some questions from Beecher to find who the fake guard is.
- The first question: Where did you see the suspicious soldier? The answer is: Near the well.
- The second question: And which piece of equipment was damaged? The answer is: The Lance.
One Soldier Too Many Quest Reward — Echoes of Wisdom
After a short scene, General Wright will give you a Golden Egg for a reward. You can either sell Golden Eggs to shops for some Rupees or use them in your Smoothie recipes for powerful healing effects.
