Overwatch 2 is rolling out some new changes for Lifeweaver in the next patch that should give the support hero some more power. While the specifics of these changes are currently unknown, players should expect to see them when Overwatch 2 releases Season 12 on August 20.
Since his introduction to Overwatch 2 in Season 5 back in April 2023, Lifeweaver has been an incredibly popular hero. His Petal Platform and Tree of Life let him provide cover and vantage points for his team, and Life Grip can be used to rescue players from certain death. That said, the hero has been in a tough spot over the last year. While a good Lifeweaver can win an Overwatch 2 match, his kit could use a little fine-tuning to let him keep up with other support heroes.
Luckily, it seems like Lifeweaver is getting some attention soon. During a discussion for the Group Up! podcast, Overwatch 2 lead hero designer Alec Dawson and game director Aaron Keller spoke with content creators SVB and Flats. While they discussed several topics, including early 7v7 tests in the original Overwatch, Dawson brought up his hopes to make improvements to the abilities of several underperforming heroes, such as Lifeweaver. “There’s Lifeweaver changes I’m excited about coming in the next patch,” he said. “We’re looking at kits and being able to actually make them better and better.”
Lifeweaver Buffs Likely Coming in Overwatch 2 Season 12
Considering Overwatch 2 Season 12 is currently planned for release on August 20, the “next patch” Dawson referred to was likely the accompanying balance update. Fans can expect Lifeweaver to be among the heroes who will receive some buffs in the next season, though Overwatch 2 also plans to address the pressure put on tanks, so the FPS may see the abilities of some hard-counter heroes adjusted to alleviate the effectiveness of counterpicking.
It remains to be seen what these Lifeweaver changes will actually include, but it is possible some of the buffs Eskay designed for Overwatch 2’s Community Crafted mode could become official. In the limited-time game mode, Lifeweaver’s Thorn Volley damage and weapon swap speed were increased, Life Grip’s cooldown was reduced, and Petal Platform got two charges and an increased jump height boost, all of which made the hero feel much more impactful than before.
"There’s Lifeweaver changes I’m excited about coming in the next patch… We’re looking at kits and being able to actually make them better and better.”
Either way, Season 12 of Overwatch 2 also introduces Juno to the game. This new support hero has some incredible utility, including speed and damage boosts, high mobility, and impressive burst damage. Hopefully, these upcoming Lifeweaver buffs can help the hero stay relevant alongside the new support character.
