Running out of Flower Points (FP) in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door can make combat more tedious than it needs to be. FP can be restored with Special Moves such as Sweet Treat and Sweet Feast, but if you don't have Star Points (SP), then you'll have to rely on items. Gradual Syrup is one of several FP-replenishing items that you can use in Thousand-Year Door. Unlike Honey Syrup or Maple Syrup, Gradual Syrup will slowly restore FP in battle. If you have something stronger like a Jammin' Jelly, then you might get more use out of a Gradual Syrup through cooking than you would in battle.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - How to Get Gradual Syrup

To get a Gradual Syrup, you're going to have to buy one for 15 Coins at Deepdown Depot in Rogueport. In order to reach Deepdown Depot, you'll have to unlock the western half of Rogueport. This is the same area where you can find the Pianta Parlor and Happy Lucky Lottery.

If you haven't done so already, you'll need to give Zess T. a Contact Lens in order to access Rogueport West. This can be obtained from Toad Bros. Bazaar (located in Rogueport Plaza) for 10 Coins.

Here's how to find Deepdown Depot:

  1. Once you're in Rogueport West, look for a grate in the middle of the road. You'll need to have Mario turn sideways (ZR-button) to fall down into Rogueport Sewers.
  2. From here, go right and jump across the platforms. Enter the rightmost exit to reach Rogueport Underground.
  3. Head to the center of Rogueport Underground (where the fountain is located), and you'll notice an "elevator" on the northern wall. Wait for it to lower, hop on, then enter the building on the right side.

You can also reach Rogueport Underground from the east side by using Bobbery's Ability on the column outside Merluvlee's House.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - How to Get Gradual Syrup

Gradual Syrup will recover 2 FP for ten turns. Since Mario and his partner share FP, it doesn't matter who you use it on. However, unlike regular Syrups, Gradual Syrup cannot be used outside of battle.

If the FP-recovery is too slow, then you can use Gradual Syrup in cooking. Visit Zess T. in Rogueport Plaza, and have her cook it into the following recipes:
