- Hypercharge: Unboxed reaches 100k sales on Xbox in a month.
- Digital Cybercherries, the indie developer, celebrates success on Xbox.
The well-received co-op shooter Hypercharge: Unboxed has reached another major sales milestone on Xbox only a month after its release on Microsoft's consoles. T hit indie game from debut developer Digital Cybercherries is proving its staying power by successfully reaching a new audience on another platform. This paints a bright future not only for Hypercharge: Unboxed, but also the sales potential of other games similar to it that come to Xbox consoles in the future.
Having started its life as an early access game on Steam, Hypercharge: Unboxed received its first full release on Nintendo Switch in early 2020, with a subsequent 1.0 launch on PC later that year. Since then, the developer behind the game — Digital Cybercherries — expressed its intent to bring its first/third-person hybrid co-op shooter to more platforms, including Xbox consoles. Although it took longer than some might've expected, the studio finally confirmed early last month that Hypercharge: Unboxed would come to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on May 31, 2024. The game didn't receive much in the way of a traditional marketing campaign upon its launch on Microsoft's platforms, but that did not stop it from passing a major sales threshold.
On Friday, June 28, the official Hypercharge: Unboxed Twitter account announced that the hit multiplayer game had "sold over 100,000 copies in under a month since launching on Xbox." Digital Cybercherries celebrated the crossing of this milestone by thanking gamers that bought the well-received co-op shooter on Xbox. "To our amazing Xbox fans and everyone at Xbox, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in our dream," said the developer. "#PowerYourDreams isn't just a slogan — it's a reality, and we are living proof!"
Hypercharge: Unboxed is a Big Hit on Xbox Consoles
This isn't the first time that Digital Cybercherries has provided a sales update on the game following its release on Microsoft's consoles, as the developer previously announced earlier this June that Hypercharge: Unboxed had sold 50,000 copies on Xbox in just five days. This means that, since then, the game has gone on to sell an additional 50k units on Xbox platforms over the last three weeks. Taking into consideration the fact that Digital Cybercherries is an independent developer consisting of only 6 people, the company's recent success with Hypercharge is all the more impressive.
Xbox players who are interested in giving this game a shot but don't want to pay full price for it should probably wait for a sale, as Digital Cybercherries has expressed on multiple occasions that it doesn't currently have plans to put its great indie game on Xbox Game Pass. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean Hypercharge: Unboxed will never come to Microsoft's subscription service, but it likely won't happen in the foreseeable future.
