It seems Xbox is giving away free copies of the Standard Edition of the critically-acclaimed 2018 open world racing game Forza Horizon 4. Forza Horizon 4 is in fact one of the highest-rated video games that was released in all of 2018, with the game earning a great deal of praise for its impressive graphics, huge open world, and fun racing gameplay. Unfortunately for fans of the game, Forza Horizon 4 is going to be delisted later this year.
It was recently announced that on December 15, Forza Horizon 4 is going to be delisted from all platforms. Racing games like Forza Horizon 4 are delisted periodically due to expiring licenses, and so it's just an unfortunate reality with these kinds of games. When Forza Horizon 4 is delisted, it will no longer be available through Xbox Game Pass either, which will definitely be a blow to the subscription service. However, it seems some Xbox gamers don't have to worry about Forza Horizon 4 being delisted, as they've been gifted the game for free.
Having received the offer myself, I can confirm that Xbox is giving away free copies of Forza Horizon 4 to Xbox Game Pass subscribers who purchased DLC for the open world racing game. The freebie is being given away through a direct message on Xbox consoles. This way, Xbox gamers can still access Forza Horizon 4 and the add-on content they purchased for the game even after it's delisted and removed from Xbox Game Pass. This is great news for Game Pass subscribers who decided to invest a little more in their Forza Horizon 4 experience, especially since the game's DLC is so great.
How to Get Forza Horizon 4 for Free on Xbox
- Be an Xbox Game Pass subscriber
- Purchased DLC for Forza Horizon 4 in the past
There's no guarantee that meeting the prerequisites will secure you a free copy of Forza Horizon 4 now ; it may only apply to those that met the requirements prior to the announcement of the game being delisted, so keep that in mind.
Alongside many free updates, Forza Horizon 4 released two major premium expansions after launch. The first was Fortune Island, which gave racing game fans a brand-new island to explore, and the second was LEGO Speed Champions, which gave everything an impressive LEGO makeover. Both expansions were well-received by fans and add substantial, meaningful content to the experience, and so it really isn't a surprise that many Xbox Game Pass subscribers decided to buy the add-ons for the game back in the day.
Regardless, it's still a bummer that Forza Horizon 4 is being delisted and will ultimately be removed from Xbox Game Pass. The good news is that there will still be two Forza games for fans to check out after Forza Horizon 4's departure. The equally-impressive Forza Horizon 5 will remain on the service, and there's also the simulation-based Forza Motorsport to play as well. One has to imagine that those two games will eventually follow in Forza Horizon 4's footsteps and wind up delisted, so hopefully, Xbox gamers that purchased DLC for those titles will be offered a similar deal when the time comes.
