An audio glitch in Stardew Valley turned the charming life sim title into a creepy experience for one fan. The shared clip of the Stardew Valley experience has disturbed other players as well, with some suggesting that it's like something out of a Creepypasta.
Stardew Valley is generally considered to be a relaxing and soothing kind of game. The experiences and relationships one forms with the villagers in town have charmed many, and outside a few creepy moments in Stardew Valley, the majority of the game is far from scary. With music and audio playing a big role in how people perceive media, though, this simple glitch has disturbed a lot of people.
Stardew Valley fan mak0vka shared a gameplay clip of their experience in the game with other fans on Reddit. They say that the glitch initially started while they were in a multiplayer run of Stardew Valley, but after starting a new game, the glitch remained. The clip shows the player waking up on the first day in their new home and is more or less normal as the player starts cutting down brush surrounding the house. However, the audio is unnerving. While the sound effects sound normal, the music has become distorted, slow, and sounds almost off-key, and nothing like how the cheerful spring season background music would normally sound.
Creepy and Calm Clash in Stardew Valley
Fans in the comments have been a bit freaked out about the music getting so messed up. Some suggested solutions for fixing the game, like restarting, verifying the files, or completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game. However, most are simply disturbed by the experience, comparing the game to a horror title or a Creepypasta. Several compared it to creepy music or moments in other games, like suggesting it reminded them of Lavender Town's theme in Pokemon, or renaming the game to "Doki Doki Farm Club," a play on the horror visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club.
Thankfully, this problem is just a basic audio glitch that can likely be fixed with one of the recommendations fans have suggested. However, it's not hard to imagine it being an element of a horror mod for the game. Despite some creepy Stardew Valley headcanons, the game has made its reputation for being sweet and laid-back, but modders have added creepy elements to the game in the past. Starting a horror-themed modded version of the game with this kind of background audio would certainly set the tone from the first moment players start it up.
