Starfield Fan Designs Neat Ship Based on Fallout’s Vault-Tec

A Starfield fan with some serious design chops creates an impressive Vault-Tec ship that calls back to some forgotten Fallout lore.

Starfield Fan Designs Neat Ship Based on Fallout's Vault-Tec

  • One skilled Starfield player managed to design an impressive ship inspired by the Vault-Tec Corporation.
  • Aside from impressing their peers, the vessel also reminded a few fans of some obscure Fallout lore suggesting Vault-Tec has space-faring ambitions.

One dedicated Starfield player has managed to put together an impressive-looking custom ship inspired by the Vault-Tec Corporation. Aside from serving as a showcase of their stellar design skills, the unique Starfield spacecraft has also reminded a number of fans of some long-forgotten Fallout lore.

While Bethesda's 2023 RPG doesn't require players to construct any vessels to complete its lengthy campaign, those who do engage with its shipbuilding mechanics are likely to find them to be fairly robust and conducive to experimentation. Reddit user RecentAd4030 can attest to that quality, having already spent months designing dozens of immensely creative spacecraft, such as a Starfield ship that looks like the Energy Sword from Halo.

One of their most recent engineering feats is a vessel inspired by the Vault-Tec Corporation. The ship boasts an eye-catching, multi-hull frame adorned in the blue-and-yellow color palette prevalent throughout the Fallout franchise. Although its creator did not share a comprehensive parts list used to realize this design, it would appear that their Vault-Tec vessel primarily uses a combination of Stroud-Eklund and Deimos modules.

Vault-Tec Had Space-Faring Ambitions in Old Fallout Lore

The screenshots of this unique vessel recently hit the front page of the r/Starfield subreddit, eliciting praise from the fandom. The ship has also reminded some players of a forgotten piece of auxiliary Fallout lore which never quite managed to reach canon status. Namely, Interplay's original plan for Fallout 3, code-named Van Buren, was to partially explore Vault-Tec's endgame, which was to assist the Enclave in building one or more colony ships that would be used to find another habitable planet, thus ensuring humanity's survival following the destruction of Earth.

This idea was referenced in several later entries in the series. E.g., Fallout 76 Season 14 rewarded players with a Deep Spacewalk paint scheme, a power armor cosmetic featuring the Enclave emblem that appears to indicate the remnants of the U.S. government have indeed launched a space program after the 2077 apocalypse. Furthermore, the Nuka-World DLC for Fallout 4 features some imagery indicative of Vault-Tec's space-faring ambitions or exploits. But since those posters can only be found in a sample vault open to the public, it is possible that they are merely propaganda instead of an outright confirmation of Van Buren's planned lore being canon in the Bethesda era.

Whatever the case may be, RecentAd4030's distinct-looking ship inspired by the Vault-Tec Corporation serves as an eye-catching callback to that forgotten part of Fallout lore, even if its author did not necessarily intend it as such. And while Vault-Tec and the Enclave's space colonization ambitions may sound reminiscent of Bethesda's latest game, the developer has already confirmed that Starfield and Fallout are not set in the same universe, even though it did consider that idea once upon a time.
