Steamworld Heist 2 has six jobs for you to use with your various crew members. While they all start as one job, they can easily be changed to a different job to fit whatever party make-up you find best.
As you switch jobs and level up your crew in those jobs, they will unlock various skills that are active while they are using that skill's job. Using Cogs, players can use unlocked skills when using a different job, letting them use the best skills possible while still using whatever weapon they find best.

Cogs are used on skills that have already been unlocked and will make them active when you are using a different job than that skill is originally from. After switching jobs, go to the skill tree of a job where you have a skill unlocked, and you'll see cog-shaped holes under the skill, indicating how many cogs it takes to activate that skill. Cogs can be used and taken off of skills as often as you'd like, making it easy to mix and match different builds to find what you like best.
Cogs can only be used on skills that have already been unlocked for a job, meaning that crew members will have to use that job for a few missions until they have unlocked the skill you want, which is also a great way to earn Reputation.

Each crew member has their own number of Cogs, and all start out with a few when they first join. Every job's skill tree has one level that will give that crew member an extra Cog. To maximize the number of Cogs a crew member has, they will need to use each job and level them all up a few times to get the bonus Cog ability. While it does vary from job to job, most of the extra Cog upgrades happen around level two or three. Some accessories also give more cogs for crew members, but they can cost a lot and take up a tool slot.
How To Change Jobs In Steamworld Heist 2
Jobs are tied to the weapon the character is using, and changing jobs is as easy as changing weapons, which can often be purchased using Gallons. In the crew member's menu, the second option from the top on the left is their weapon, and selecting it will let you choose a new available weapon from your inventory. The class icon will appear next to the weapon, and equipping that weapon to the crew member will change their level to reflect the level of the new job. In total, there are six jobs for players to choose from.
- Brawler
- Boomer
- Engineer
- Sniper
- Reaper
- Flanker
There are no restrictions or limitations on who can use what weapon, giving players large amounts of freedom with how they build their party. Each party member does have their own stats and a few special abilities, making some jobs better choices than others. But with the ability to use Cogs and use skills from various jobs, you can greatly branch out with how each crew member plays.
