Super Mario Run is receiving another crossover event which brings new levels and decorations, this time with the recently released Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. This crossover event demonstrates a continuation of support following the surge of popularity that Super Mario Run has received in the past months.
Super Mario Run was released in late 2016 and has been able to find its footing in recent months thanks to a series of successful crossover events. March 2024 saw a crossover with Princess Peach: Showtime, and last month Super Mario Run ran a crossover event with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Both of these events were run in celebration of the crossover game launching and allowed players of Super Mario Run to complete themed missions and unlock special statues that depicted items and characters from their respective titles, as well as boosting the amount of medals gamers could receive for completing various levels. With the release of Luigi's Mansion 2 HD on the Switch, Nintendo has offered fans of the Mario series the chance to earn some spooky rewards in Super Mario Run in celebration.
Players of Super Mario Run can complete nine-themed missions to unlock statues that are all themed around iconic imagery from Luigi's Mansion 2 HD. By completing these missions and aiding Luigi in his "ghastly foils", players can unlock these rewards for a limited time. This crossover event also coincides with the launch of the latest Loads of Coins event, which offers a boost in the amount of coin rewards that players can receive by winning at Toad Rally — losing will still net players the same amount of coins as normal.
Super Mario Run x Luigi's Mansion 2 HD Crossover Event Details
- 1.5x the coin reward when players win at Toad Rally (available until July 12)
- In-game statues based on Luigi's Mansion 2 HD (available until August 1)
- Luigi & Poltergust 5000 Statue (complete three missions)
- King Boo Statue (complete six missions)
- Fleeing Polterpup & Luigi Statue (complete nine missions)
The game's status as a mobile title often nets it a certain level of dismissal in the eyes of fans, even though Super Mario Run is considered a mainline entry to the Super Mario games. The game sits at a surprisingly costly price when compared to the rest of the mobile games market, and Nintendo has taken steps to make Super Mario Run more approachable, all the while adding additional content such as this for fans to enjoy.
Recent years have shown that it is currently an exciting time to be a Mario fan, and that momentum doesn't seem to be stopping. Still receiving updates and events nearly eight years after its initial launch, it's clear that Nintendo considers Super Mario Run an important entry to the series.
