The Sims 4 Confirms Important New Update

Electronic Arts has announced an important The Sims 4 update that aims to address a variety of issues currently plaguing the game. The patch, which is planned to roll out by mid-August 2024, will primarily target problems that were introduced as part of the Lovestruck expansion for The Sims 4.

The Sims 4: Lovestruck Expansion Pack was released on July 25. The add-on debuted to a mixed reaction from the fandom, not least because it ended up causing quite a bit of issues, ranging from smaller graphical glitches to more pervasive problems, like the weird bug that prevents players from initiating any kind of interactions in live mode.

EA Announces The Sims 4: Lovestruck Bug-Fixing Update

EA officially acknowledged some of these problems on August 6, when it announced the game's first patch dedicated to addressing The Sims 4 bugs introduced in the Lovestruck expansion. Among other things, the update will seek to eliminate error code incidents and a graphical glitch that causes glasses' frames to distort. The latter has been the subject of dozens of player reports that were posted on EA's Answers HQ forums since the new expansion pack debuted in late July.

The upcoming patch will also seek to address some "missing interactions," EA said. While the company did not elaborate on the matter, that remark is plausibly a reference to a known issue that causes some The Sims 4 romantic interactions to sporadically disappear from the pie menu. According to recent player reports, reloading one's save from the main menu can temporarily fix this issue until EA delivers a permanent solution.

EA said that the bug-fixing update is planned to roll out "within the next week," so no later than Tuesday, August 13. The company is expected to publish a detailed changelog describing the contents of the patch a few days before it rolls out. EA has been sharing these so-called The Sims 4 "laundry lists" since 2021, having started the practice due to fans' requests for more transparency in communicating its efforts to improve the game.

Player reports on social media and EA's own forums suggest that Lovestruck also introduced a variety of other issues that the developer-publisher has yet to officially acknowledge. Some of the most commonly highlighted problems concern incorrect filtering behavior of the Cupid's Corner app and the inability to add or replace holidays on the calendar. Many players have also reported that the expansion causes romantic relationships to deteriorate way too quickly, to the point that partners can sometimes get separated just because one of them spent a single day at work.
