In WoW Classic, Horde quests tend to be very straight-to-the-point compared to the intertwined, often elaborate Alliance storylines. Go here to kill boars for food, take out these warlocks threatening Orgrimmar, etc. But amongst a slew of relatively simple questlines are some of the best WoW Classic quests that Horde players can experience.

Some of the most famous WoW Classic Horde quests are more, eh, infamous – like ‘Lost in Battle’. But if you know where to look while leveling, and don’t mind reading quest text for context, the Horde has a surprisingly large number of nuanced, interesting quests to experience.
5 Lost In Battle
- Quest Start Location: The Barrens
Arguably one of the most iconic questlines in WoW Classic is ‘Lost In Battle’, otherwise known as the Mankrik’s Wife quest. Mankrik, an Orc, tells the player that his wife fell in battle and wants them to find her. But the thing is, he’s extremely far away from her body, and her body is not labelled «Mankrik’s Wife» in-game: it’s labelled «Beaten Corpse».

Back in the day, Barrens general chat was full of players asking «where Mankrik’s Wife» because it was such an obtusely-written quest. If you have a WoW Classic addon like Questie installed it’s not a problem anymore because her location will be highlighted – but try this quest without any addons to get the authentic Barrens experience WoW Classic players are so nostalgic for.
4 Snapjaws, Mon!
- Quest Start Location: The Hinterlands
The Horde doesn’t get as many unique, useful items from quests like the Alliance does (like the Bag of Marbles or the Light of Elune), but they do get one huge advantage in Fishing thanks to the ‘Snapjaws, Mon!’ quest.
This quest can be hard to get to as a Horde player because it’s on the southeastern tip of The Hinterlands, along the southern shore.
You do not need to have the Fishing profession trained to pick up this quest.

But once you’re there, all you have to do is pick up the quest from the Fishing trainer in Revantusk Village, then kill 15 nearby Snapjaws to get an incredibly useful item: Nat Pagle’s Extreme Angler FC-5000. This Fishing Rod does good damage for the level bracket and grants a huge +25 Fishing Skill when used for its intended angling purpose.
Pick this one up if you’re an avid fisherman in WoW Classic to get a permanent advantage that outranks just about any other Rod.
3 The Archmage Arugal Questline
- Quest Start Location: Silverpine Forest
Archmage Arugal is one of the most infamous characters in WoW Classic because he is responsible for the Worgen Curse that affects Silverpine Forest and the surrounding areas. Arugal was once a mage of Dalaran, but not a very good one, and had to rely on enchantments to match up to his fellow members of the Kirin Tor.

When the Scourge attacked Gilneas, he gave the humans a way to fend off the invading hordes of undead: the Worgen. After summoning the Worgen to Gilneas, they indeed staved off the Scourge, but then turned on the Humans and infected them too.
In Silverpine Forest, Horde players can learn about this infamous mage as they learn about the Worgen infestation in the region. Now with hundreds of Worgen at his command, Horde players are tasked with putting an end to this mad sorcerer’s reign over the region in one of the best-designed dungeons in WoW Classic.
2 The Fallen Hero Of The Horde Quests
- Quest Start Location: Blasted Lands

In this lengthy, multiple-zone questline, players unravel the story of a Fallen Hero Of The Horde, who died in battle in the Blasted Lands. In the Swamp of Sorrows, you will see this Orc ghost on the side of the road heading south toward the Blasted Lands, and be sent to learn about the battle from living survivors in the nearby town of Stonard.
Eventually, you will be guided back to the Fallen Hero of the Horde who will tell his full story. As it turns out, he fled a battle after becoming overwhelmed, but when he returned he ended up being captured and tortured by the Burning Legion. Some of his fellow soldiers were forced to walk the earth as servants to three members of the Burning Legion. The Orc regrets his inaction and wants you to help free their eternal souls from this torturous existence.
This quest leads into a series of quests in the Blasted Lands that all lead up to the final confrontation against the Demon responsible for this degradation: Rakh’likh. It’s a pretty epic quest chain that sees you redeem a fallen Hero and makes you feel like a proud member of the Horde, but it will prove extremely difficult unless you choose a good DPS class or are near max level.

1 The Prodigal Lich
- Quest Start Location: Tirisfal Glades
In terms of the best WoW Classic quests, Horde players don’t get nearly as many well-written or truly engaging questlines as the Alliance. For the most part, Horde quests boil down to «kill these things for food» or «kill these things because they’re a threat to us» without much elaboration. The exception to this is in Undead-themed quests.
Throughout Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine Forest the Forsaken have some of the most interesting and memorable questlines, like when you use a new version of the Plague of Undeath to melt an innocent Dwarf’s face off in the ale room of the Brill Inn.
If you only take on one quest in these zones, pick up ‘The Prodigal Lich’. This quest begins in the Undercity in the Mage Quarter, when there is tell of an undead sorcerer on an island to the north who is not part of the Forsaken.

As it turns out, Gunther Arcanus broke free from The Lich King’s control on his own, not at the same time as the rest of the Forsaken, and believed himself to be the only one. You help him join the Forsaken and reconnect with friends he knew in life, giving some nuance and humanity to the often comically-evil Undead.
