Wuthering Waves: Should You Pull For Jinhsi Or Changli?

With their earlier announcement, the Wuthering Waves team has given players a sneak peek at the 1.1 version update, revealing that the limited characters will be Jinshi and Changli. This allowed players to start anticipating these characters and saving up resources for them instead of potentially pulling for characters like Yinlin and Jiyan from the launch version.

Although there are three weeks between their releases and they are not featured together, players may want to opt for pulling one or the other before their respective banners are over. While the decision to pull on either is ultimately dependent on personal preferences and available resources, here are some additional aspects to consider when deciding whether to pull for Jinshi or Changli in Wuthering Waves.

Jinhsi VS Changli In Wuthering Waves

Wuthering Waves: Should You Pull For Jinhsi Or Changli?

Jinshi and Changli are relatively comparable as characters, as both are combo-oriented DPS characters despite their different attributes (elements). Both also focus heavily on their Resonance Skill in their rotations, making them similar in many aspects. However, there are still nuances in their roles, team compositions and builds that players should pay attention to.

Build

Considering that Jinshi is a Spectro Broadblade character, while Changli is a Fusion Sword character, their builds differ significantly in terms of Echo sets and weapons. For Jinshi, the best Echo set is Celestial Light 5-piece with the main Echo being Jué. Players will need to focus on farming Jué, and might not have immediate access to ideal sub-stats. Until then, Mourning Aix is a useful alternative. Jinshi's best weapon is her signature, Ages of Harvest. However, options like Verdant Summit or Lustrous Razor are also viable if players have previously obtained them for characters like Jiyan or Calcharo and can freely swap them for challenging content like Tower of Adversity.

Changli, on the other hand, has a different set of optimal Echoes and weapons tailored to her needs. For Echoes, she will benefit most from the 5-piece Molten Rift set, with Inferno Rider as her main Echo, which is readily accessible. Regarding weapons, her best option is her signature weapon, Blazing Brilliance, which provides significant boosts to Crit DMG, Resonance Skill, and ATK%. However, Emerald of Genesis is also a viable option, making it convenient since it is one of the better 5-star weapons available to players once they reach level 45 in Union Level.

Overall, in terms of builds, both Jinshi and Changli are similar in their need for the same stats and accessibility. They both benefit from Crit Rate, Crit DMG, Resonance Skill, and ATK, although Jinshi requires slightly less ATK as she scales better with Resonance Skill. Additionally, Changli is recommended to be built with more Energy Regen to maximize her effectiveness. However, except for Resonance Skill, players can technically use the build they might have had for Encore, if they aren't planning to use them on the same team, which can make the Echo farm less dreading.

Role

Jinshi is a main DPS character, who will need to complete certain combos while timely using Enhanced State Resonance Skills. On that note, while her combo rotation is relatively short, players will need to focus on swapping between certain characters, since she can essentially ignore Concerto Energy, and allow for characters to utilize the team's outro and intro skills more often with her Unison ability, which is once every 25 seconds. Since Jinhsi's main DMG comes from her last enhanced Resonance Skill, which is basically a nuke if players can gain enough Incandescence stacks, which means she will benefit from utilizing off-field DMG dealing characters.

Changli's rotations are a bit longer, but she can perform as both a main DPS and a sub-DPS, which is advantageous for players preferring duo DPS setups—a strategy that is interestingly viable in Wuthering Waves. Her main DPS source is her Resonance Skill, which activates a state called True Sight. In this state, her Basic Attacks are converted to an Enhanced State and are counted as Resonance Skill DMG. Additionally, her Heavy Attack can buff her ATK and is also considered Resonance Skill DMG. This makes her highly versatile and capable of fitting into various team compositions effectively.

Overall, the DPS output of Changli and Jinshi is quite similar, with both characters focusing on their Resonance Skills in different ways. However, compared to a character like Jiyan, their more complex combos make them slightly more prone to DPS drops — especially for Changli. Jinshi is a bit more flexible in her combo order, allowing for easier adjustments during combat. On the other hand, Changli is more versatile in her overall role, capable of functioning as both a main DPS and sub-DPS, making her potentially more future-proof and adaptable to various team compositions.

Team

While both Jinshi and Changli can utilize the same support units like Verina, Baizhi, and Taoqi, players will notice some differences in their synergy requirements for the third team spot. Jinshi benefits more from characters with highly useful Intro/Outro skills. She pairs well with characters like Spectro Rover, who offer strong Intro/Outro skills, and characters like Yinlin and Yuanwu, who provide significant off-field damage potential, helping Jinshi build her Incandescence stacks. Overall, Jinshi performs well with characters that require minimal on-field time.

Changli, on the other hand, is more flexible in her team compositions as her performance is less dependent on other characters. She has self-buffs and can also enhance the next team member by providing Fusion DMG and Resonance Liberation DMG buffs. This makes her a great option with characters like Chixia or Encore for a duo-DPS setup, but she can also fit well into a more standard setup with characters like Sanhua to further boost her performance. With more characters potentially benefiting from her Resonance Liberation or Fusion DMG buffs in the future, players can consider using Changli as a sub-DPS with a shorter rotation.

Overall, both characters have different team requirements, but with right setups and rotations, the overall team DPS values are relatively similar.
